🌟 Community Update from Sioux Rapids Hometown Pride 🌟

We’re excited to share what’s coming next as we continue working together to shape the future of our community!

In April, our committee will receive a report from our consultants summarizing insights gathered from the recent community focus groups and conversations.

Following that, our consultants will begin a comprehensive community assessment, diving deeper into opportunities, priorities, and ideas that matter most to YOU.

As we move into the design phase this summer, there will be even more opportunities for community engagement giving YOU a chance to help guide the vision and plans for Sioux Rapids.

✨ Meet Christy Wernimont ✨

Christy has recently joined the Sioux Rapids Hometown Pride Committee and serves as one of our City Council liaisons, helping strengthen communication and collaboration between the committee and the City.

She has been a proud member of the Sioux Rapids community for 24 years. Originally from Remsen, IA, Christy quickly found her home here and has been invested in the growth and success of Sioux Rapids ever since.

Christy joined our committee because she sees so much potential in Sioux Rapids. She wants to make a difference and believes this group truly wants what’s best for our community.

When she’s not volunteering, you’ll likely find Christy cheering on her three busy kiddos at cross country meets, track events, Bright Lights Dance, and fireman training. She also stays busy running Wernimont’s Well Drilling and her hobby business, Christy’s Laser Creations. Christy attends Valley Lights Church here in town. If she’s not at work or an event, she’s probably planning her next vacation!

👏 A Huge Thank You to Christian Bros! 👏

The Sioux Rapids Hometown Pride Committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to Christian Bros for their incredible generosity in completing the Poolside Park/Sioux Rapids Pool parking lot expansion.

Christian Bros donated their time, equipment, and materials to make this project possible. Because of their support, we now have additional parking space that will help accommodate families and visitors enjoying the pool and park.

Projects like this truly show what makes a small town special with local businesses stepping up to support their community.

A BIG Thank You to Our Community!

Today’s focus groups in Sioux Rapids were a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of so many generous people and organizations in our community.

First, thank you to Sioux Rapids City Hall for allowing us to host the focus groups in such a great space.

We are also incredibly grateful to those who helped keep everyone fueled and comfortable throughout the morning:
• Community State Bank for donating bottled water
• Sioux Rapids Historical Society for providing coffee
• Wagon Wheel for donating pizzas for our hosts and steering committee
• An anonymous donor for the delicious donuts
• Susan Mathe for the homemade cookies

And a special thank you to the ISU Design Team for facilitating our focus groups and guiding such meaningful conversations.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone in the community who took time out of their Saturday to attend and share ideas. Your input is incredibly valuable as we work together to shape the future of Sioux Rapids.

Sioux Rapids community members — this is your chance to sign up for the Community Visioning focus groups happening TOMORROW- Saturday, March 7 at City Hall!

These conversations help shape the future landscape and transportation improvements in Sioux Rapids, and your input truly matters.

Focus Group Times:
🕘 9:00 AM
• Active recreationists
• Older adults (65+)

🕙 10:15 AM
• Parents
• Youth 13 and older
• Youth 12 and younger

🕦 11:30 AM
• Mobility challenged

⚠️ We are especially hoping to get a few more youth signed up for the 10:15 session and mobility challenged for the 11:30 AM session!

This is part of the 2026 Community Visioning Program with Iowa State University, helping create a plan that reflects the community’s vision for Sioux Rapids.

🏠 Home Repair Funding Available in Northwest Iowa!

Hometown Pride is excited to share an opportunity through the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund!

Income-eligible homeowners may qualify for:
🔹 Up to $12,500 forgivable grant (no repayment if terms are met)
🔹 Up to $37,500 total assistance (includes 2% low-interest loan for qualifying households)
Funds can be used for health, safety, and code-related home repairs.
