There’s still time to make sure your loved one is part of our Buddy Cheer Signs this year!

Longtime New Directions supporter Carin Griffith is creating personalized signs that volunteers will hold along the Buddy Walk route to celebrate and cheer on our amazing buddies. 💙💛

To have a sign created, please send Carin:

📸 One favorite photo — alone or with others, your choice
⭐ Three short, fun facts about your loved one

Think favorite hobbies, sports, foods, talents, dreams, or anything else that gives us a little glimpse into what makes them them! Please keep the facts brief so they fit nicely on the signs.

💙Who do you walk for?
💛I walk for my amazing blessing of a daughter Athena.

💙What was the first year you participated in the Buddy Walk?
💛The first year we participated was 2024 we accidentally missed the 2023 walk.

💙Why do you choose to walk with us each year?
💛We choose to walk each year to show her; her ongoing support from her parents and family along with all the other individuals who love and adore her and made an impact on their lives.

💙Do you have a favorite Buddy Walk memory you'd like to share?
💛The only favorite memory I have and will always have is the great turn out each year has and I hope that it continues to grow with love and support from everyone.

💙What would you like people to know about Down syndrome?
💛Everyone is a blessing to this world but down syndrome feels like it has an extra touch of gods grace and love. They truly show you unconditional love and live life with basically no care in the world what people think. I think God intentionally puts them in your life to show you real love that’s felt. They are normal just like you and I and amazing humans.

💙Who do you walk for?
💛Our grandson, Lucas

💙What was the first year you participated in the Buddy Walk?
💛The first year for us was cancelled due to a flood. The second year was cancelled due to covid. Our first in person we were able to attend was 2021.

💙Why do you choose to walk with us each year?
💛To support Lucas and all of the individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

💙 Do you have a favorite Buddy Walk memory you'd like to share?
💛Lucas' Great Grandpa Darwin, who was 90 years old at the time, trained for the walk - specifically for Lucas. It was the last year it was held at Sertoma Park, and he walked for Lucas. Every year, we love all of the excitement in the air - you can feel all the love in that day of celebrating!

💙What would you like people to know about Down syndrome?
💛That the families who have someone with Down syndrome in their lives are lucky to have that person to love.

💛Our family walks for our 8-year-old son Warrior.

💙What was the first year you participated in the Buddy Walk?
💛If I'm remembering correctly our first Buddy Walk was in the year 2019.

💙Why do you choose to walk with us each year?
💛We walk each year to support Warrior and to help raise awareness about Down Syndrome to our extended family, friends, and community.

💙What would you like people to know about Down syndrome?
💛I would like people to know that any individual with Down Syndrome can live a wonderful, beautiful, fulfilling life. Warrior has brought so much joy and love into our lives, and we are truly blessed to be a part of his world and the happiness he brings to us every day.
