Meet ⭐️Brian Williamson⭐️, BSN, RN, a 2025 recipient of both the Thomas E. & Marianne M. Stenvig Scholarship and the South Dakota Nurses Foundation Scholarship. Brian is currently pursuing a BSN-to-PhD, with a research focus on improving nurse safety and support in the face of workplace violence.

Brian’s nursing journey began at the bedside in critical care and emergency nursing. As his career progressed into leadership roles, he saw firsthand how often nurses are expected to manage aggressive situations without structured training or support afterward. These experiences ultimately shaped his decision to focus his doctoral work on workplace violence prevention and recovery for nurses.

Through his research, Brian is developing practical, evidence-based tools to help nurses feel more prepared and supported before, during, and after violent encounters. His work includes simulation-based education and structured reflection tools aimed at strengthening confidence, resilience, and long-term retention in the nursing workforce.

Brian views these scholarships as an investment not only in his education, but in the future of nursing. By blending bedside experience, leadership insight, and research, he is working to create meaningful change that supports nurses across healthcare settings.

Outside of nursing and academia, Brian is also a devoted husband and father of 12 children. This family photo, taken during the 2025 holiday season, captures the support system behind his work and passion for advancing nursing practice.
