According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 15,000 children and adolescents (ages 0 to 19) are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States. That means about 1 in 285 children will be diagnosed with cancer before turning 20. Sound scary? It is. It's Lou George 's birthday today! Our President and Founder has worked so hard to bring his vision to life: helping kids win their toughest battles. Dr Lou, as he's known around these parts, is constantly striving to strengthen Voices Against Cancer and allow us to bring incredible joy to pediatric cancer patients and their families. During this month of September, we champion Childhood Cancer Awareness. Sometimes a big thing like cancer can make us feel small, can make us feel powerless. And we are left with the hopeless notion of "What can I do?" It is possible for the small things to inspire big changes. You, YES YOU, can make a difference in the life of a child. By championing a child, you help us support them and their families during the fight of their lives. "How can I champion a child?" Reach out to us directly and let us know you are wanting to sponsor a family's needs in the Family Assistance Program. Think of it like an Angel Tree at Christmas. We hear it each year at our 605 Pop Con , "Your volunteers are fantastic!" Yes, we know. It's a flex. We know that, too. When you are having fun, yet working for something you truly believe in, passion shines through. Our volunteers for our annual flagship fundraiser each summer are simply invested in their community and invested in helping our pediatric cancer families have the times of their lives!
