Anne Fundner says fentanyl took her son Weston's life, but the avenue that led him there was peer pressure. Weston was 15, a high school freshman with every opportunity ahead of him, when one moment changed everything.

Since losing him, Anne has testified before Congress, spoken on some of the biggest stages in the country, and fought for legislation in his name. This week she joins Angela to share his story and why the conversation around peer pressure could save lives.

As we come together on August 31 for our International Overdose Awareness Day Candlelight Vigil, we will take time to remember and honor the lives of those lost to overdose and fentanyl poisoning.

During the vigil, we will read the names of loved ones aloud as a tribute to the lives they lived and the impact they left behind.

Mollie Kruse, a member of our Youth Prevention Coalition, is heading off to South Dakota State University, and she's making sure naloxone is packed as part of her essentials.

College introduces new experiences, new people, and new responsibilities. Naloxone is a simple tool that can help save a life in the event of an opioid overdose. Whether you're heading to college, moving into a dorm, or staying close to home, having naloxone on hand matters.

Students across the region can pick up a free naloxone kit at any of our naloxone distribution boxes. The link to the map of locations is in the comments. Find a box near you, because you never know when you will have the chance to save a life.

On Monday, August 31, we will gather at 8 PM for our International Overdose Awareness Day Candlelight Vigil at the River Greenway Amphitheater in downtown Sioux Falls.

Each pair of shoes at the vigil represents a life lost to overdose in Minnehaha and Lincoln counties, a reminder of the people who are deeply missed and the lasting impact their loss has on families and our community.

Join us as we come together to remember those we’ve lost, honor their lives, and stand in support of those affected by the overdose crisis. 💜

Katie Rizzo started writing poetry after losing her son Nicholas because she needed people to know he was here, that he was important, and that she was not ashamed of how he died. What began as screaming into the void has become something far more beautiful and far more powerful.

She joins Angela this week on Grieving Out Loud to share Nicholas's story, read from her collection of poems, and remind every grieving parent that their child's life mattered.

A life was saved today outside of the St. Francis House thanks to Emily’s Hope naloxone.

Staff on site administered Emily’s Hope naloxone to an individual who had lost consciousness on the front steps of the building. They were not a guest at the St. Francis House.

Our last highlight for National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, as part of our Facing Fentanyl campaign, is our series of assemblies across South Dakota. This statewide awareness initiative focuses on educating students, families, and communities about the dangers of fentanyl.

Watertown residents and surrounding areas, join us on Tuesday, October 20, at 1:30 PM for a Facing Fentanyl Assembly at the Watertown Civic Arena. Through powerful storytelling and education, the assemblies will encourage students to start conversations, recognize the risks, and make informed decisions.
