Happy heavenly birthday, Alex Koller 💜

Today we remember Alex for his compassionate heart, infectious smile, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. Whether he was spending time fishing, hunting, cruising in his dad’s Mustang, or making memories with friends and family at the Missouri River, Alex found joy in life’s simple moments and the people he loved most. He had a way of making others feel seen and cared for, always checking in and offering support when it was needed most.

Alex’s memory continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, and his light will never be forgotten. Read his story in the comments

When Stephanie Peirolo's son was in a car accident and left profoundly disabled, she didn't just face one loss. She faced a cascading series of them, fighting insurance companies, drowning in debt, and eventually bringing her son home from the hospital while he was still in a coma.

She joins Angela this week on Grieving Out Loud to talk about a kind of grief that rarely gets named, and what it means to lose someone in layers before you lose them completely.

Today was a big day for Emily's Hope and for Brown County. 💜

Our PORT Program Manager Diana Leal was in Aberdeen today for the official kick-off of our Post-Overdose Response Team expansion into Brown County. The community gathered at the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library, including leadership from Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center and Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Mayor Travis Schaunaman, law enforcement, council members, and community organizations who care deeply about this work.

The room was full of people committed to making sure that no one in the Aberdeen area has to face the moments after an overdose alone. That is exactly the kind of community response that saves lives.

A huge thank you to the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library for hosting us and for going above and beyond to help spread the word about this event!

If you or someone you love needs support after an overdose, we are here. Learn more about PORT and the counties we serve in the comments.

What a special way to spend the last day of school!

This morning, Courtney and Delana were at Ben Reifel Middle School for their Community Day. At the Emily's Hope booth, students learned about our mission and wrote encouraging notes for young people receiving treatment at the Avera Addiction Adolescent Center.

Watching these students pour kindness into every note was a reminder of how much compassion students have for their peers. Thank you to Ben Reifel for including us and to every student who took time on their last day of school to lift someone else up. 💜

Society tells us grief should have a timeline. That at some point we should be done. But twenty years after losing her son, Stephanie Peirolo says she is not done grieving, and she has made peace with that.

She joins Angela this week on Grieving Out Loud to talk about what it really means to grieve someone you deeply loved, and why the length of your grief is not a sign that something is wrong with you.
