We Need Siouxland Volunteers to Ride the Data Bike!
(If interested, contact Corinne Erickson ([email protected]) at Simpco. She can coordinate a ride time and provide the required waiver form.)

DETAILS:
We have an exciting opportunity to help document and improve our metro trail system!

From September 11 through October 16, Simpco will be renting the Des Moines Area MPO’s Data Bike. This specialized bike collects pavement roughness data that will help create a trail maintenance map, while also capturing imagery that can be used to make our trail system viewable on Google Street View.

Learn more about the Data Bike here: https://dmampo.org/project/data-bike/

The metro trail network includes approximately 70 miles of trails, and we need volunteers to help ride those miles and collect the data. We’re working on dividing the network into manageable sections/routes so volunteers can sign up for individual rides.

A few important details:
• Riders will need to sign a waiver required by the Des Moines Area MPO.
• We’ll provide the Data Bike and coordinate the routes.
• You’ll be helping create useful information for future trail maintenance and improving how people can explore our trails online.

Iowa Data Bike The Iowa Data Bike is an initiative by the Des Moines Area MPO in partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Using an app that senses the roughness of pavement, the Data Bike generates a score for the roughness condition of trails.....

Unfortunately, because of the current and forecasted rain, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Sioux City Showdown. We know this is disappointing, and we’re grateful for everyone’s flexibility as we prioritize the safety of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and trails.

We’ll see everyone at the Branched Oak Braaaap in just a little over two weeks! 🚲 We’re looking forward to getting back on the trails and finally getting to race together!
