PSA: Greenville County has a TON of free spay/neuter options🐱

I keep seeing people say, “There aren’t any affordable options” or “I can’t get my pet fixed because it’s too expensive”

And apparently like no one knows that GCAC has free spay/neuter for low income families?

Y’all… Greenville County Animal Care Services offers multiple FREE programs right now.

✅ FREE spay/neuter for qualifying low-income Greenville County residents
✅ FREE spay/neuter for veterans living in Greenville County
✅ FREE TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) for community/feral cats with NO income restrictions
✅ Free core vaccines included with many of these programs

Even if you don’t qualify for a free program, their regular prices are far lower than most private veterinary clinics. Cats are currently listed at $75!
- In my experience, they book about one month out. Be PROACTIVE.

There are also organizations like Speak for Animals￟ that help fund low cost spay/neuter services throughout our area for outdoor AND indoor cats

I know transportation, scheduling, and life in general can still be barriers. But if cost is what’s stopping you, please check these programs before assuming it’s out of reach. And please STOP telling people there’s no options. Ugh!!! There’s so many!

Every pet that gets fixed helps reduce shelter overcrowding, unwanted litters, and euthanasia. One appointment can literally prevent hundreds of kittens from being born into an already overwhelmed system

Feel free to share. A lot of people genuinely don’t know these programs exist🐾💜

EMERGENCY‼️‼️‼️

4 kittens were found without mom inside a car maintenance shop. We are closed for intake, so I (Brianne Shaffer) will have to take them in. When I did this before, it was a lot. Kittens are a lot of work, especially when working full time & doing TNR. On top of getting Purrfection Rescue ready!

Anywho

They will all need vet visits, meds, etc. And we don’t have a lot of kitten food! Please donate if you can, I will also update our Amazon list for food donations🫶🏼

Thank you everyone!! Please share!

TOMORROW ‼️‼️ FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH

Greenville County Animal Care

Gate opens at 8am - ARRIVE EARLY!!! 5-6am would be my recommendation! You will sit in your car and wait!

Guys. TRAPS only. Do not bring your pet in a carrier. This is for outdoor cats! Your ID must have an address in Greenville county. 4 cats per CAR (not person.)

Again. GO EARLY

FAQ:
Pickup time?
- My experience: It varies! Between 11am and 3pm is my guess. Again, my guess!
How many per trap?
- One cat per trap!
How old do they have to be?
- 2.5 lbs is a good, ideal weight. Which can be around 10 weeks old, but this varies! Google kitten age estimates to help
What if they’re pregnant?
- They will still fix them. Bring her in!
What if she’s still nursing?
- Kittens wean around 4-6 weeks. So if they’re that old, bring mom! Just keep an eye on her babies for her❤️

From GCAC:

- NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY. This is a first-come, first-served event.
- We will be spaying and neutering OUTDOOR cats living in GREENVILLE COUNTY ONLY at this event.
- Participating cats are required to be in a HUMANE LIVE TRAP.
- Max 4 community cats per vehicle.
- All cats will be spayed/neutered, ear-tipped, and vaccinated. No other medical services will be offered (No Felv/FIV testing).
Come be a part of this incredible event and help us reduce the population of community cats in Greenville County! Questions can be emailed to [email protected].

Outdoor cats are meant to be TNR’d😌

It can feel scary to trap. Sometimes you’ll feel bad returning them. Sometimes they seem kinda friendly but like they’ve been outside for 3 years and you just don’t know

In the end, though, it’s what’s best for them!! It’s at LEAST a great start❤️So many people don’t know what TNR is. Some places don’t even offer it

Even if YOU know what it is and why it’s so awesome, share this with someone who may not know! You’d be surprised just how many people don’t know what an ear tip is🤪

LOST TABBY CAT?

If you have a tabby cat with a pinkish collar, I just saw her running in the road in this area!!

I could not catch her, but I tried. She ran in front of me and some other cars. I don’t know if she is an outdoor cat or lost. If she is an outdoor cat, she is going to get hit because that road gets very busy😞

If this is your lost cat, please reach out! I didn’t have time to get a trap or anything. She did run, but this was like middle of traffic craziness

We offer trap rentals and I live in the are so if you need help, let me know! I didn’t even have time to get a picture or good look at her. She zoomed!

🐾 Volunteer Team Lead Needed 🐾

We’re looking for one dedicated volunteer who would like to take on a leadership role with our rescue💜

This is an unpaid volunteer position, but it is a great opportunity for someone who loves cats and wants to make a bigger impact. It would require a little bit more than a typical volunteer’s work!

What we’re looking for:
• Willing to learn our rescue’s routines and procedures
• Available to help onboard and “train” new volunteers
• Comfortable answering volunteer questions through texts
• Able to visit our Inman (Near Lake Bowen) location about once per week. Saturday would be preferred, but really that’s up to you!
• Can keep us updated when needed without requiring constant supervision
• Reliable, organized, and a good communicator

This person would essentially help bridge the gap between our core team and our volunteers, making sure everyone has the information and support they need to help our cats

Usually Brianne Shaffer & Sandy Suschana do all of this. But wow it is a lot of work!!

If you’re passionate about animal rescue, enjoy helping others, and would like to be part of building something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you!

Send us a message and tell us a little about yourself and why you’re interested🐱💜

*Reminder - this is unpaid. It’s a lot to ask!! But keep that in mind, please. Someday, we’d love to have paid positions, but we are very far away from that!*
