NEW at the Donovan Mill Gift Shop! Limited Edition Donovan Mill Commemorative Coins are here!

One of the questions we've heard most often from visitors touring the Historic Donovan Mill over the last two years has been, "Do you have a commemorative coin?"

It's something we've talked about for quite a while. In the early stages of preserving the mill, our focus was on the big jobs—stabilizing structures, restoring machinery, and tackling the countless construction and mechanical projects needed to bring this incredible site back to life. A commemorative coin seemed like something for "someday."

Well, someday has arrived.

After the tremendous progress made over the winter and seeing how far the Donovan Mill has come, we're excited to announce the release of our new Donovan Mill Commemorative Coin!

Beginning June 9, 2026 during Run Day, these limited-edition coins will be available in the Donovan Mill Gift Shop for $20 each. The design celebrates the rich history of the mill site, from the Kelsey Mill and Dazet Mill eras through Jackson & Phillips and the Donovan Mill itself.

Whether you're joining us for your first tour or you've visited before, we invite you to stop by and pick one up. It's a unique keepsake that commemorates not only the history of the mill, but also the ongoing preservation efforts that continue because of supporters like you.

Thanks Lee Brunell for letting us know about this.

All proceeds help support the Comstock Foundation for History & Culture and the preservation of the Historic Donovan Mill.

We hope to see you on June 9, 2026 or very soon!

🙏 Huge thank you to everyone who came out for the inaugural Dayton Main Street Pony Express ReRide Celebration - what a success! We will be posting an album when we can go through the hundreds of amazing photos taken – we were amazed to see such laughter, learning, and community love in Dayton‘s Old Town district! 🤩

Check out this promo ad for the Fireman’s Ball from 1975.

The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department is excited to bring back the legendary Fireman’s Ball, a historic community event that was hugely popular throughout the 1970s and early 1980s and attracted people from all over the region. It became known as one of the great local events of the Comstock area, featuring incredible music, community, and a fun atmosphere you just do not forget.

The Fireman’s Ball was revived in 1999, and we have held several successful events since then. Our last one was planned for 2020, but unfortunately had to be canceled because of the pandemic. Now we are finally back on track and excited to host another great fundraiser for the community.

This event is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase our small historic community nestled in the Comstock Historic District, just three miles south of Virginia City. Over the years, legendary local bands like the Virons and Tommy Thomsen helped make this event what it was, and we are continuing that tradition with an incredible lineup this year.

We will have seven bands performing from 1 p.m. until dark at Silver City Park. The lineup includes indie bands from Reno like Charity Kiss and Next Question, local favorites Darren Senn, Mylo, and Wabuska Yachting Club. Make sure to stick around for an amazing performance by our headliner MATT AXTON.

Attendance is free, and we will have food, drinks, commemorative memorabilia, and activities for the kids. This is truly an event for everyone, and we encourage people to come spend the day with us enjoying music, history, and community.
