Each year the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest for students in grades 3-12. The grade levels are divided into 5 different classes with specific word requirements for each class. The theme for this year’s essay was “Celebrating America’s 250 Birthday and the Veterans who Fought for Our Freedom”.
The Shubert ALA Unit 222 was very excited to have entries from Classes I, II, III, and IV from HTRS and Falls City Public this year. We appreciate the teachers that encouraged students to participate. First place overall winners were sent on to the state chairman for further judging. Those were Avery Sayer of Fall City Public who placed first place in Class I, 3rd-4th grade level; Cheila McCartney of Falls City Public in Class II, 5th-6th grade level; Collin Mezger of HTRS in Class III, 7th -8th grade level and Caroline Powell of Fall City Public/homeschool in Class IV, 9th-10th grade level.
2nd place for Class 1, 3rd -4th grade was Harper Vice and 3rd place was Aideh Seeba; 2nd place for Class II 5th-6th grade was Colby Dunn all of Falls City Public. From HTRS, the 2nd and 3rd place for Class III, 7th-8th grade was Ryker Cox and Rory Hilgenfeld.
