We had a fantastic meeting at New Beginnings Toastmasters on Monday night.

Our speakers delivered two engaging presentations that showed both the practical and fun sides of public speaking.

Our first speech focused on a critical skill for every communicator: knowing your audience. From understanding who you are speaking to, to scanning the environment, timing your message, and anticipating distractions, this presentation was packed with practical advice for anyone who speaks in public, on Zoom, or in the workplace. The first infographic highlights these key takeaways.

Our second speech took us on a humorous journey to the tennis courts in Sydney, complete with a shocking forty-dollar sandwich, a budget-friendly escape, and an unexpected career opportunity. The second infographic captures the fun, the frugality, and the reminder that great stories often come from everyday experiences.

A special thank you to Speak 2 Lead for joining us tonight. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together with fellow Toastmasters.

Tonight’s New Beginnings Toastmasters meeting was filled with heartfelt stories, lighthearted moments, and a powerful reminder of why we gather—to grow together.

🎤 Loretta Leavitt, DTM, delivered a moving speech about the upcoming Multicultural Celebration at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. For six years, she’s led this event with passion and heart. This year’s celebration on June 8, 2025, will be the final one as the church prepares to close—but it promises to be the biggest yet! 🌍🎶🍽️ With 11 cultures represented, music, dance, scholarships, and door prizes, it’s a true celebration of unity and legacy.

👏 Lue, our special guest and Division Director Elect, stepped in as evaluator and gave insightful, encouraging feedback—not to mention some unforgettable dramatics during Table Topics! (“Ohhh my shoulder!” might be our new catchphrase.)

⏱️ Naomi Lawler, DTM, helped us all become more aware of our crutch words and introduced the word of the day: cryptic—though David’s alternate version, tryptic, sparked some fun side conversations. 🕵️‍♂️

💡 Our Table Topics session, led by Nancy Manning, DTM, brought out hilarious and heartfelt responses—from pet hotel drama to biology exam nightmares to planning for shoulder surgery!

🎉 And perhaps the most meaningful moment of all—we officially welcomed our newest member, JV Peralta, into our Toastmasters family. JV, we are thrilled to have you with us and can't wait to support you on your journey!

🌟 New Beginnings Toastmasters – Meeting Recap (April 14, 2025) 🌟

What an incredible meeting last night! 💬

🎤 David delivered a powerful and heartfelt speech titled "Dear Younger Me," reminding us all that it’s okay to be scared, it’s okay to fall, and that your voice always matters.

🎤 Nancy followed with "My Style," sharing her leadership journey and the lessons she learned from a career built on trust, collaboration, and growth.

🗣️ Table Topics were both thought-provoking and fun! We tackled questions like:

What superpower would you choose and how would you use it?

What would you show aliens about Earth first?

What mistake are you glad you made?

If you had a time machine, what day would you visit?

✨ Our Word of the Day was “astute,” and our members used it well — both in word and in action!

👏 Huge thanks to Naomi, Loreta, Lee, and everyone who filled roles and supported the meeting. Your flexibility and leadership continue to inspire.

🎉 Highlights from Our January 7th Meeting 🎉

Last night, the New Beginnings Toastmasters Club had an inspiring meeting focused on personal growth and continuous learning! 🌟

Here’s what we enjoyed:
📢 Alicia Curtis took us on a nostalgic journey as she relived her childhood memories of visiting a Pizza Hut dine-in buffet in Minto, Australia. She even shared plans to visit one right here in Shreveport! 🍕
📢 Naomi Lawler, DTM, gave an insightful speech about managing a successful Toastmasters roadshow. She highlighted the importance of reconnecting clubs post-Covid and brainstorming fresh ideas for membership and retention. 👏

💬 During Table Topics, led by Nancy Manning, DTM, we shared personal stories about conferences, books, and growth experiences that have shaped us.
🎯 Our General Evaluator, David, commended the meeting’s “rejuvenating” atmosphere, while Lee Hearn, our Grammarian and Club Coach, encouraged us to find ways to stand out as a club!

We ended the night with a productive business meeting and a renewed focus on building our club culture.
