💜🖤💛❤️ As Domestic Violence Awareness Month Comes to a Close… 💜🖤💛❤️

Petrina’s Purple Passion, Inc. (PPP) proudly celebrated strength, survival, and scholarship at Grambling State University, honoring two extraordinary young women —
Anslei Kelly, a graduating senior and Psychology major, and Jael Turner, a sophomore Nursing major — both domestic violence survivors who have turned their pain into purpose and purpose into power.

These $500 scholarship recipients carry forward the enduring legacy of Mrs. Petrina Gay Jenkins (1972–2022) — a 1985 Grambling State University graduate who truly loved her some GSU! 💛🐯 Her life continues to inspire others through faith, resilience, and compassion.

Scholarship presentations were made by Lucinda Thornton, PPP President and Petrina’s mother; Janice Sneed, PPP Vice President; and Dr. Latienda Pierre, Scholarship Chair — joined by President Dr. Martin Lemelle and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Adarian Williams of Grambling State University.

💜 Thank you, Dr. Lemelle, for your support and for continuing to honor the legacy of a true Gramblinite.

💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Update | Arrest Made in Shreveport Case 💜

A wanted man has been apprehended in Long Beach, California, thanks to the courageous actions of our community and the outstanding teamwork of first responders and local leaders, including Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith, Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, and Caddo-Shreveport Crime Stoppers Executive Director Terry McNaight.

Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor said it best — this is a victory for community courage. 💪
When we speak up, we save lives. Domestic Violence (DV) thrives in silence, but together we can end it.

👉 Louisiana remains among the top 10 states for DV-related homicides, and nearly 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience intimate-partner violence in their lifetime. These numbers must change.

💜I attended services today at New Faith Baptist Church, where Bonnie Moore was the guest speaker. She spoke courageously about domestic violence, sharing both her powerful story and the sobering truth that while many crimes are decreasing, domestic violence continues to rise—especially here in Louisiana, which continues to lead the nation in domestic-homicide statistics.

No matter how many times I hear Bonnie’s story, I’m always just as touched—and I always learn something new. Her message was heartfelt, inspiring, and a powerful reminder for all of us—to be better, to do better, and to encourage others to do the same. She also encouraged those experiencing abuse to find the courage to speak up and seek help, reminding us to keep them in our hearts and prayers as they journey toward healing and freedom.

A special thank you to Bonnie Moore for acknowledging Petrina’s Purple Passion, Inc., and to Pastor Thomas Myles Sr. for allowing me to share a little about our work. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity.
