(NWLA Rasa: 25 de mayo) SHREVEPORT, Luisiana - A nuestra manera, NWLA Rasa infundió gran confianza en dos becarios que representan el mejor ejemplo del futuro de la comunidad latina en el noroeste de Luisiana. Durante nuestro segundo almuerzo anual de premios NWLA Rasa Inspira en El Eden Taqueria en Shreveport, Luisiana, Rasa otorgó a Emilio Orellana y Samantha Arellano-Gutierrez una beca de $1,000 cada uno para sus estudios de medicina.
Escucharán a los beneficiarios de la beca hablar sobre el impacto de Rasa Inspira y a algunos miembros del comité de selección sobre la satisfacción personal que les supone apoyar a los ganadores de la beca para que alcancen sus metas profesionales.
También queremos agradecer a Antonia Augilar, propietaria de Taqueria El Eden, ubicada en 1236 Shreveport Barksdale Hwy, Shreveport, por organizar un exitoso almuerzo para Rasa. Antonia es una gran defensora de nuestras comunidades latinas y de Rasa.
Como organización sin fines de lucro, nos sorprende la generosidad de un negocio local al proporcionar fondos para el futuro de nuestros estudiantes locales.

THE BEST OF OUR LATINO COMMUNITY

(NWLA Rasa:23, May) SHREVEPORT, La. - In our own small way NWLA Rasa engendered big confidence, for two scholarship winners who are the best examples of the future of the Latino community in Northwest Louisiana. During our second annual NWLA Rasa Inspira award luncheon at El Eden Taqueria in Shreveport, La., Rasa awarded Emilio Orellana and Samantha Arellano each a $ 1,000 scholarship to be utilized for their academic medical careers.
Orellana, a student at Airline High School in Bossier City, La. and Arellano in a program to become a mid-wife (one who births babies) were winners of the Rasa Inspira scholarship for 2026.
A few members of the selection committee were present for the luncheon; Pastor Christina Martinez, Fernanda Hernandez, Morning Anchor at KTAL-TV in Shreveport. Rasa’s Scholarship Director Lupita Soto, also one of your contributors Ronald M. Cotsopoulos, Jr. owner of Kobus Technologies in Bossier City, La. one of our many scholarship contributors. Also Emilio’s parents were our guests Maria and Francisco Oreelana.
Other members of the selection committee, Melina Messier, Marvin Andrade, KSLA-TV and Dr. Marie Vazquez-Morgan.
“This is what we are here for. This is our ultimate goal to help the community, getting together to support that one goal of education” said Lupita Soto, NWLA Rasa board member.
We also want to thank our host Antonia C. Aguilar , owner of El Eden Taqueria making us feel at home, with great food and great service. Augilar is a strong supporter of her community. (Rasa Media/2026)

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

Karla Sanchez-Hernandez is from Mexico, but was raised in Louisiana. While at Northwestern, she was the recipient of the Radiologic Science Scholarship and the Raza Inspira Scholarship. She also served as the President of the SSGA, the Historian of her class, and the President of the BRIDGE club. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as the Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society. Karla plans to work in diagnostic radiography, with hopes to pursue radiation therapy or medical school to become a radiologist.

NWLA RASA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIP ON THE CINCO DE MAYO

(NWLA RASA: 5 de mayo) SHREVEPORT, Luisiana - Recompensar la determinación en la búsqueda de la educación superior y el servicio comunitario se manifiesta otorgando becas a jóvenes latinos. Esa es nuestra misión en Northwest Louisiana Rasa, una organización latina sin fines de lucro que defiende los derechos de la comunidad.
Hoy, Cinco de Mayo, NWLA Rasa se enorgullece en anunciar que nuestra segunda edición anual de RASA Inspira (Inspira) ha otorgado dos becas de mil dólares a Samantha Arellano y Emilio Orellana.
SAMANTHA ARELLANO
Recibir la beca NWLA Rasa “Inspira” significa muchísimo para mí. No es solo una ayuda económica, ya que siento la vocación, como enfermera hispana bilingüe, de cursar una maestría en partería. He visto de primera mano cómo las barreras lingüísticas y la falta de acceso pueden afectar a las familias hispanas.
EMILIO ORELLANA
Estoy sumamente agradecido a RASA y me siento muy honrado de haber sido seleccionado para la beca “Inspira”. Planeo obtener una licenciatura en biología, luego completar la carrera de medicina y, finalmente, convertirme en cirujano general. Todo camino comienza en algún punto y RASA me ayuda a dar mis primeros pasos hacia mi meta.
