๐ SOMETIMES LOVE MEANS LETTING GO. ๐
These are the situations in rescue that leave us heartbroken, frustrated, and quite frankly, angry.
Our sweet girl struggled through the night. Her little body was covered in open sores and wounds, and the large mass caused her tremendous discomfort.
With every movement, maggots by the hundreds fell from her body. Blood dripped from her wounds. She didn't want to eat. She was weak, exhausted, and suffering.
And we can't help but ask ourselves...
How does someone let an animal get to this point?
How long did she suffer? How long was she hungry? How long did she hurt before we finally stopped to help her?
We know we cannot save them all no matter how hard we try. But that doesn't make situations like this any easier to accept.
After seeing how much she was struggling, the heartbreaking decision was made to let her go.
She is free now. ๐
Free from the pain. Free from the infection. Free from the hunger and suffering that had consumed her little body.
We wanted so badly to give her a different ending. A soft bed, a full belly, a loving foster home, and the chance to experience all the wonderful things a dog should know.
Instead, the greatest kindness we could give her was a peaceful goodbye.
And that hurts.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Alta Sierra Veterinary Hospital for treating her with such compassion and dignity.
To everyone who donated toward her care, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity brought us almost enough to cover her veterinary expenses, and we are eternally grateful. You helped us be there for her when she needed someone most.
Please don't ever look the other way when you see an animal suffering. Speak up. Reach out. Do something. Because no living creature should have to endure what this little girl did.
We couldn't save her life. But we could end her suffering. And we could make sure she didn't leave this world without someone caring.
Run free, sweet girl. ๐๐พ
You mattered. You were loved. And we are so very sorry that the world failed you before we found you.
