It’s been a fruitful year here at Paramount Open Space Park. While we’ve only been concentrating on a tiny section of the park, the restoration work to get to where we are has been immense. Help us continue to move forward by joining us at this month’s work party!

Green Shoreline Partnership x MBAKS Tree Planting Event - October 24 at Paramount School Park

“Earlier this year, the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS) reached out to the City to collaborate on a tree planting event. Their goal was to focus efforts in parks/open spaces located within communities identified by the WA Department of Ecology as overburdened and highly impacted by air pollution.

With approval to move forward, their community stewardship program, “Planting a Better Tomorrow” will be partnering with the Green Shoreline Partnership to plant 64 trees at Paramount School Park. We’ll be planting ball and burlapped trees (1.75 in. – 2.5 in. caliper trees) so there will be lots of digging and mulching! We plan to have groups of 3-4 people working together to dig holes, plant the tree, and place mulch.”

Reminder: Work Party!

Help with more w**ding, of course, but we can also do a bit of seed collecting! We’ll be collecting as much as we can to plant in winter.

THANK YOU to the two volunteers that showed up and helped clear this portion of the park again during this month's work party!

Now you can see straight through this fallen tree, which will make it easier to clear the bindw**d and blackberry vines that like to wrap themselves around it.

We were also able to re-clear most of the w**d regrowth.

🌳 One of our volunteers, a regular helper, even brought and planted two cherry trees that he got for free from a neighbor. Major wins on this day!

Now and through December our upcoming work parties will take place on the 1st Sundays of each month. Our next one will be on Oct. 5th.

Hope to see new and old faces there!

This poor alder tree we planted in March was covered in bindw**d vines all the way to the top!

Thankfully, a couple of us have been re-clearing the area in our spare time. A couple of hours here and there and this section is looking better again. If you walk by, it’s right behind the wood chip pile just before entering the parking lot.
