MCDG Candidate Statement - Mark Hill
I’ve been playing disc golf since 2017 and discovered Shelton Springs and the Mason County Disc Golf community in 2018.
In 2020 the Mason County Disc Golf Association was in danger of disbanding and so myself along with a couple other people stepped in and ran for board positions to keep the club going as Shelton Springs is too incredible of a property to not be maintained and cared for.
I was elected that year as the club’s treasurer and I’ve been on the MCDG board now for six years, and I’m seeking re-election for an additional two year term.
During my time as a board member there have been several other people elected to the board that have the same passion and love for Shelton Springs and we all helped Mason County Disc Golf grow and flourish!
A few of our accomplishments over the past several years:
- We became an official 501(c)3! This included getting our organizational documents and practices in order and documented for future parties.
- We launched a brand new website
- We took the club from a financially floundering organization to a stable position that can afford to do course development projects and offer players additional amenities. This was accomplished by making cuts and increasing operational efficiency, as well as implementing some revenue generating policies.
- We improved partnerships with local government agencies, including the landowners of the course, the City of Shelton.
- We invested in further development of Shelton Springs, including adding a third-layout to build upon the great bones of the course and modernize the facility to keep up with the explosion of disc golf and the ever-changing environment. This includes creating a more accessible novice track and a more challenging advanced track.
- We hosted significant events such as the Shelton High School Disc Golf Club Tournament, the Washington State Amateur Championships, the Washington State Senior Games, and several women/juniors events that help to grow the sport to underrepresented communities.
- We also hosted the very first Disc Golf Pro Tour events in Washington State over the past three years, including the Cascade Challenge Elite Series in May 2025!
- These events, and the continued reputation and notoriety of Shelton Springs, brings economic development and tourism investment to our community.
In addition to being a board member, I am also the tournament director for several events that take place each year at Shelton Springs which help showcase our wonderful course.
I’d appreciate your support in this years election, taking place at the Annual Meeting, April 23, 6:00 PM, at the Shelton YMCA.
