A little story about Courage....
Over this last weekend, I saw a post about a dog that got loose from it's family by accident. I started to share the post and try to get the owner some sightings which eventually turned into a friend calling me and telling me that she had picked up the owner and they were over where the dog was last seen and could I possibly help.
I told her that I was actually going to take a drive anyway for a short bit so I headed over and unfortunately we saw the dog but the dog ran off. So after another quick look around we could tell he disappeared, so I set out some food, a hidden trail cam and we took off for the night as it was almost dark. To be quite honest with you, I really wasn't sure if he was still there near the area or ran away but it was worth a shot.
On Sunday I got permission from land owners and the area church nearby to be on the property and officially set up a trail cam and then if/when needed a live trap. We then attempted to see if the dog would go to the owner in that same area but unfortunately no show for the dog.
Meanwhile the dog decided it was going to run a different direction later that day and we were not aware of his location until the next morning when the calls and messages started coming in on Monday. The dog hung out in a different field the entire day and we again attempted to see if the dog would come to the owner, which unfortunately was a no go. Sometimes dogs are so scared and running they don't recognize their owners and rather they run from everyone because to them it is perceived as a threat to them. We also set up a food station for the dog nearby with permission from a homeowner and hoped he would show up.
Often people don't understand that when a dog is in a survival flight mode it will run from everyone and everything and tell me that it shouldn't be that hard to get a dog or catch a dog. It has been my experience over the last few years that just isn't the way it works for a large majority of dog that get lost. It's definitely a learning curve to figure these things out and each dog is different! One might say it takes "courage" to learn and help others understand how it works.
So last night on Tuesday, we knew where the dog was hiding as he showed back up on camera for the food at 2 AM so we made sure there was food available to hopefully keep them in the area. Fortunately Courage was hungry and he stayed in the area, so later in the day when we were available we set the trap and waited and prayed that he would show up and walk into the trap. Prayers did work last night as the dog showed up about 25 minutes later and circled the trap a few times and then walked in. Our team got him loaded onto the truck and he was off back to his home just a few minutes away and safe with his momma! We appreciate all the members of our team and the draftees that help when asked for assistance!!
Thank you to all who helped us with this rescue for Courage the dog and those that advised us of the dog's whereabouts as well as allowing us to be on their property. We appreciate YOU and could not be successful with reuniting pets with their owners without YOU. Many thanks to all who follow us and support us....We Appreciate YOU! π₯°πΎ
