Today, we honor and remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

‘It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.’
— George S. Patton

Senior Spotlight - Steven Wyatt!!
For the past six years, Steven Wyatt has been one of the driving forces behind SAC, leading not only with his performances in the pool, but with his voice, attitude, and work ethic every single day. A senior at Cherryville High School, Steven has become the kind of teammate every coach hopes for: someone who pushes the people around him to be better while holding both himself and his teammates accountable to a high standard. Whether it’s a brutal practice set or a tough race, Steven is almost always the swimmer setting the tone with his effort and determination.

This fall, Steven will continue his swimming and academic career at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, where he plans to major in Accounting with a minor in Photography 📸🏊‍♂️ His favorite event is the 500 freestyle, which fits perfectly with the grit and toughness he brings to the sport. One of his favorite memories came during the 1000 freestyle, hearing teammates cheer him on through every lap and knowing they were right there beside him. Steven says his favorite part of swimming has always been encouraging teammates and pushing hard at practice, something anyone who has trained with him has seen firsthand.

His advice to younger swimmers is simple but powerful: “You can do anything as long as you put your heart and mind to it.” He also wanted to give a shout out to Coach Tanya, Coach Jordan, his teammates, and especially his mom for all the rides to practice before he got his license. Outside the pool, Steven enjoys running, hiking, traveling, and apparently has some hidden dance skills too 💃 No matter where life takes him next, there’s no doubt Steven’s leadership, work ethic, and competitive spirit will continue making an impact everywhere he goes. 🦈

Senior Spotlight - Taia Schneider!
Taia Schneider has been the definition of quiet determination during her time with SAC. A senior at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, Taia has spent the last 11 years in the sport, bringing an incredible work ethic and steady leadership everywhere she goes. Whether she was grinding through brutal sets in lane 5 at Kings Mountain or racing her favorite event, the 200 free, Taia never asked for attention, she simply showed up every day and set the standard through her actions. One memory she’ll always carry is finishing a legendary practice alongside Kenz and Steven that included rounds of 500 frees and 400 IMs with almost no rest, and realizing afterward just how much they were capable of pushing through together.
Outside the pool, Taia loves reading, snacking on Goldfish before meets, and dreams of traveling to Switzerland someday. Most people may not know she also played piano for nine years 🎹. Her advice to younger swimmers says a lot about who she is: “Cherish the life you have with swim but also don’t forget the life you have outside of swim.” That balance, perspective, and maturity have made Taia such an important part of this team. Next year she’ll continue both her academic and swimming career at Trinity College in Connecticut, and there’s no doubt she’ll carry the same determination and quiet confidence with her there. SAC is incredibly proud of her! 🦈💙

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our amazing Shark Moms! 🦈💙

Thank you for the early mornings, long practices, endless driving, and miserably hot swim meets. Thank you for packing the snacks, finding the missing goggles, calming nerves before races, and always being there after the good meets and the tough ones.

You are motivators, therapists, cheerleaders, and the steady support system behind every swimmer on our team.

Our swimmers may be the ones in the pool, but none of this happens without you.

Thank you for everything you do for our Sharks! 💙 ❤️

Senior Spotlight - LeeAnne McDowell!!
“Some swimmers make noise with medals, others leave their mark through consistency, heart, and the way they treat people. For years, you showed up with quiet determination, embraced the toughest events in the pool, and became the kind of teammate who made others feel welcome from day one. Your dedication to swimming and loyalty to this team over so many years says everything about your character. SAC has been better because you were part of it.” 🏊‍♀️💙 🦈
