We were so happy to visit Muddy Brook Elementary with our guinea pigs again, this time for the 1st graders πŸΉπŸ’›

Together, the students learned all about guinea pig care, small animal needs, gentle handling, observation, communication, and what it means to be responsible for another living being.

These sessions are such a beautiful way to bring animal-assisted education into the classroom. With small animals, children get to practice:

🐹 quiet bodies
🐹 gentle hands
🐹 taking turns
🐹 patience and self-regulation
🐹 empathy and responsibility
🐹 observation and curiosity
🐹 respectful connection with animals

The guinea pigs are wonderful teachers because they invite children to slow down, listen carefully, and notice the little signals animals give us.

Thank you so much to Muddy Brook Elementary School for welcoming us again, and a huge thank you to the PTA for funding this visit and helping make these meaningful hands-on learning experiences possible for students πŸ’›

Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the quietest ones.

A gentle hand on soft fur.
A calm animal looking back.
A resident being seen, remembered, and met with tenderness.

During our senior visits , eye contact, discussion and gentle petting create moments of connection that can bring comfort, spark memories, ease loneliness, and support wellbeing in the simplest, most beautiful way πŸ’›

This is the heart of animal-assisted activities at Le Petit Ranch ❀️

Today was our very first sheep visit to , and it was such a beautiful moment πŸ’›

We came with Cinnamon, our one-month-old lamb and Cinnamon, Laura’s sweet volunteer guinea pig because double Cinnamon, double joy πŸ‘πŸΉ

Sundays can sometimes feel a little slower in care communities, with fewer staff and fewer visitors, so being able to arrive with animals, presence, and a little surprise felt very special.

Cinnamon the lamb did absolutely amazing. She was curious, gentle, and so sweet with everyone. As soon as residents saw her, the stories started flowing with memories of farms, childhood, animals they had loved, and moments from long ago. There were smiles, laughter, and also a few tears.

Walking Cinnamon around became such a beautiful invitation for residents to come out of their rooms, gather together, connect, and share a moment.

This is why we believe so deeply in animal-assisted activities. Animals bring comfort, movement, memories, conversation, motivation, and connection in a way that feels natural and joyful.

Thank you so much to Noble Horizons for welcoming us. We are so grateful for this beautiful visit ❀️

We had such a wonderful Friday morning at New Marlborough Central School with our guinea pigs thanks to πŸΉπŸ’›

This time, we visited the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classrooms to introduce the children to guinea pig care and small animal connection.

Together, the students learned how to approach small animals gently, how to use quiet bodies, how to observe guinea pig behavior, and how to think about what animals need to feel safe and cared for.

Animal-assisted education with young children is such a beautiful way to practice:

🐹 gentle hands
🐹 quiet bodies
🐹 taking turns
🐹 patience
🐹 empathy
🐹 observation skills
🐹 responsibility
🐹 kindness toward living beings

The guinea pigs are small, sensitive teachers, and they help children slow down, notice details, listen, and connect in such a sweet and meaningful way.

Thank you so much to New Marlborough Central School for welcoming us for a full morning of animal-assisted learning. We loved spending time with your Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students!

And we are already looking forward to our next session with the 1st and 2nd graders, all about ducklings πŸ₯✨

We love hands-on, experiential learning in schools πŸ’›

This week we had such a sweet first session with the Sunshine Preschool at Berkshire South Regional Community Center πŸΉπŸ’›

We introduced the preschoolers to our guinea pigs and learned all about caring for small animals, how to be gentle, how to use a quiet body, how to observe, how to take turns, and how to notice what an animal might need.

Animal-assisted education is such a beautiful tool for young children. Through real-life interactions with animals, preschoolers can practice empathy, patience, self-regulation, communication, observation, responsibility, and respect for living beings, all in a way that feels joyful, hands-on, and meaningful.

And this is just the beginning!

We are so happy to be offering a 3-part summer series at the preschool:
🐹 guinea pigs
πŸ” chickens
πŸ‘ sheep

Next step: Chickenologie! πŸ”βœ¨

Thank you to Berkshire South and Sunshine Preschool for welcoming us. We are so excited for more animal-assisted learning together this summer πŸ’› thank you Laura O'niel for volunteering with us and bringing your guinea pig Cinnamon (cutest silkie guinea pig ever ❀️🐹)

This week we were so happy to welcome the ladies of to the ranch for our biweekly sessions πŸ’›

For this session, we worked on fine motor skills through simple hands-on activities like rolling, taping, gluing, and creating together.

We also explored sensory comfort with unusual textures, including real wool from our sheep. A little smelly, a little sticky, very textured… and such a wonderful opportunity to practice curiosity, flexibility, and comfort with something new πŸ‘

The ladies did such a beautiful job. We had a joyful, relaxed, and creative time together, filled with laughter, conversation, and gentle connection.

These sessions are such a special reminder that animal-assisted activities can support learning, sensory exploration, confidence, fine motor skills, emotional regulation, and community connection at every age and ability level.

We are so grateful for these moments together at the ranch πŸŒΏπŸ‘πŸ’›

πŸΉπŸ’› Guinea pigs are domestic animals. They cannot survive in the wild.

They are not built to find food safely, protect themselves from predators, handle extreme temperatures, or live outdoors on their own. When guinea pigs are dumped outside, they are scared, vulnerable, and in real danger.

Please, please do not release guinea pigs in the wild and save them if you find some.

If you or someone you know can no longer care for your guinea pigs, there are compassionate options:
🐹 contact a local shelter
🐹 reach out to a rescue
🐹 ask us for help rehoming safely
🐹 contact us and we will do our best to guide you

Locally, we highly recommend reaching out to for support.

And if you are thinking about adding guinea pigs to your family, please consider adoption. There are so many guinea pigs in need of safe, loving homes.

At Le Petit Ranch, we are always happy to help families learn more about guinea pig care, housing, enrichment, diet, social needs, and whether guinea pigs are the right fit before adopting.

They are wonderful little animals, and they deserve safety, kindness, and proper care πŸ’›

Don’t dump. Ask for help. Adopt when you can.

We are so grateful to the Berkshire Humane Society for welcoming us into this meaningful collaboration πŸ’›

At Le Petit Ranch, we strongly believe in the power of collaboration and animal-assisted education. When schools, nonprofits, community organizations, and animals come together, children are given a different kind of learning experience, one that is hands-on, memorable, emotional, and deeply human.

This session with the Reid Middle School students in Pittsfield was all about dog care, animal welfare, dog bite prevention, rescue greyhounds, observation, empathy, and responsible relationships with animals.

Yayi and Ronya did such a wonderful job helping students learn in a calm, gentle, and interactive way. These moments are exactly why we do what we do: to create connection, curiosity, compassion, and real-life learning through animals.

Thank you to Berkshire Humane Society, Reid Middle School, and the Charles H. Hall Foundation for making this possible. We are honored to be part of this community work 🐾
