🐑🎶🎭 13 kids, a flock of sheep, and a whole lot of creativity! ❤️

Today was our second Animal, Music & Theater after-school session at Le Petit Ranch, and we loved EVERY minute of it!

Our 13 young artists, ages 4 to 10, explored singing, rhythm, movement, imagination, and teamwork, all inspired by our wonderful sheep! 🐑✨

And sheep gave us some pretty amazing things to think about…

🐑 How do we stand out in a group?
🎭 How do we focus on ourselves while also paying attention to others?
🎶 How can we be one of a kind while still being one of many?
🐑 And how many different ways can we BAAAA? (Spoiler: A LOT! 😂)

Through music, theater games, and playful exploration, we practiced listening, collaborating, expressing ourselves, and finding our own voices while being part of a group.

And as always, we ended our afternoon with one of our favorite traditions: singing to our animals. ❤️

Because at Le Petit Ranch, animals don’t just inspire our activities, they help us explore who we are, how we connect, and how we grow together.

It’s music. It’s theater. It’s animals. It’s joyful learning! 🌿✨

🐴❤️ Our animals are not tools. They are our partners. And they deserve to keep learning, too!

This week at Le Petit Ranch, we’re incredibly lucky to have our dear friend Elodie Fleury - coach équitation bienveillante & mindset visiting us to spend a week working with our miniature horses and donkeys!

When we talk about animal-assisted activities, we often focus on what animals bring to people. But what about what we bring to our animals?

For us, continuous training is an essential part of their care and well-being.

Our animals aren’t here simply to participate in our programs. They are individuals with their own personalities, preferences, needs, and boundaries. And just like us, they benefit from learning, practicing, building confidence, and discovering new things!

So what have we been working on this week?

🚐 Trailer training: helping our equines feel more comfortable and confident with loading and traveling, reducing stress through patience and positive experiences.

🐴 Adaptability and confidence: gently preparing them for different people, situations, environments, and unexpected experiences, always respecting their comfort levels.

🧘 Stretching and body awareness: learning new movements like the révérence (a little bow!), encouraging gentle stretching, coordination, and playful interaction.

🌲 Forest walks: exploring the outdoors, experiencing new sights and sounds, and enjoying time together beyond our usual routines.

🎉 Play, curiosity, and connection because training should also be enriching, engaging, and FUN for our animals!

And sometimes, the most important part of training is knowing when to pause, listen, or let an animal say, “Not today.”

We don’t train our animals to make them tolerate everything. We train to help them feel safer, more confident, and more comfortable in the world around them.

Animal-assisted activities should be a partnership, never a one-way relationship. ❤️

🎃🐹 A little Halloween magic at the Sheffield Senior Center today! 🧡🍂

Today’s animal-assisted activities session was all about creativity, connection, and guinea pigs!

We spent a wonderful afternoon building spooky little Halloween houses, carving pumpkins for our guinea pig friends, and watching them explore their festive creations! 🏠🎃

But beyond the crafts, there were also those simple, beautiful moments we love so much: conversations, laughter, gentle petting, feeding the guinea pigs, and just enjoying being together. ❤️

Because sometimes, animal-assisted activities are simply about creating a space to connect, share, create, and find joy in the little things.

We absolutely love bringing our animals to the Sheffield Senior Center and seeing the relationships and familiar smiles grow with every visit.

🐴❤️ Who says learning has to happen in a classroom?

Today we welcomed our wonderful SOAR Enrichment after-school group to Le Petit Ranch for an afternoon of animal-assisted education, and what a joyful experience it was!

We LOVE taking learning outside the classroom, especially when parents can join in, learn alongside their children, and share these beautiful moments together! 🌿

Today’s adventure was all about horsemanship, confidence, leadership, and connection.

We practiced breathing and staying calm, discovered how our energy and body language can communicate with horses, and explored what it means to be a gentle, confident leader while respecting the animals.

We also groomed our miniature horses, learned about different brushes and their uses, and had so much fun navigating and jumping over obstacles! 🐴✨

Because working with horses isn’t just about horses. It’s about learning to trust ourselves, regulate our emotions, communicate clearly, work together, and build confidence, all through hands-on experiences.

So much laughter, curiosity, teamwork, and beautiful moments of connection between children, parents, and animals. ❤️

🐴🎨 What happens when horses become our art teachers? 🍂✨

Next Saturday, we’re teaming up again with Second Nature Arts for a beautiful morning of Horse Portrait & Art at the Ranch!

We’ll spend time getting to know our miniature horses, discovering their personalities, learning about their behavior, grooming them, and exploring how they move.

Then comes the creative magic! 🎨

Inspired by our horses, we’ll experiment with drawing, painting, colors, textures, and mixed media to create expressive horse portraits full of personality!

No need to be an experienced artist or horse lover just bring your curiosity and imagination! ❤️

We love combining animals + art + nature to create opportunities for children to observe, connect, express themselves, and discover their own creativity.

🐑🎬 What a beautiful community evening. 🍂❤️

Tonight we brought our sheep to Scoville Memorial Library Library for a special Sheep Movie Night as part of the Salisbury Fall Festival and we were so touched to have 96 people registered to join us!

There was something incredibly special about families gathering together, meeting the sheep, learning a little about them, and then settling in for a movie with our woolly friends right there beside us. 🐑✨

These are the moments we love most at Le Petit Ranch: animals bringing people together, creating conversation, curiosity, laughter, and shared memories across generations.

Thank you so much to Scoville Memorial Library and the Salisbury Fall Festival for welcoming us, and to every family who came to spend the evening with us. Seeing so many people gathered around our sheep made our hearts very full. ❤️

We feel so lucky to be part of this community.

💛 A place to connect, create, and simply be. 💛

One of the things we are most proud of at Le Petit Ranch is creating a space where adults of all abilities feel welcome, comfortable, included, and free to participate in their own way.

We had another beautiful session this week with the wonderful ladies from Riverbrook Residence, spending time with the animals, enjoying gentle hands-on activities, creating art, and sharing plenty of laugh along the way. 🐴🐹🎨

Sometimes it’s brushing a miniature horse, quietly holding a guinea pig, painting something together, or simply enjoying the moment. These experiences can invite connection, curiosity, creativity, confidence, and joy with each person at their own pace.

We love seeing familiar faces return, watching relationships with the animals grow over time, and creating a place where everyone belongs. ❤️

Thank you, Riverbrook Residence, for another wonderful visit. We are always so happy to welcome you to the Ranch. 🌿

🫏🎨 Art + Donkeys + a beautiful fall afternoon at the Ranch! 🍂

Today we had such a joyful Art & Donkey Half Day at Le Petit Ranch with Second Nature Arts and we loved every minute of it!

We started with a Donkey Bingo challenge, earned and made our very own donkey ears 🫏, spent time really observing our donkeys, and colored them based on what we saw.

Then the inspiration took over… ✨

We settled into the grass with our art supplies and imagined the creepiest, funniest, most wonderfully strange creatures: half donkey and half… whatever the kids could dream up! 👀🫏🐉🦋

Art outside.
Animals beside us.
Kids creating freely.
Lots of laughter, imagination, and connection. ❤️

It’s fun. It’s art. It’s outdoors. It’s joyful. And this is exactly why we love bringing arts + animals together.

Thank you to our wonderful young artists and to Second Nature Arts for another beautiful collaboration!

Some days, life just doesn’t go according to plan. And that’s okay. 🤍 We’re parents too. We know what it’s like to have a morning when getting everyone out the door feels impossible. To realize you scheduled more than your family can manage. To wake up sick. To have a child who is tired, overwhelmed, nervous, or simply having an off day.

So at Le Petit Ranch:
It’s okay to cancel.
It’s okay to reschedule.
It’s okay to arrive and need a little extra time.
It’s okay to come with a group of five and have someone who isn’t ready when everyone else is.
It’s okay to sit back and watch before joining in.
It’s okay to love animals… but not want to touch one today.
It’s okay if today looks completely different from what you imagined.

There is no pressure here to perform, participate, smile, or “make the most” of every minute.

Sometimes someone needs to brush a horse. Sometimes they need to watch from across the fence. Sometimes they need to talk. Sometimes they need quiet. And sometimes the biggest accomplishment of the day is simply showing up.

We can be flexible because connection comes before the activity.

The animals aren’t keeping score, and neither are we. 🐴🐑🐹🐓🐕

We want Le Petit Ranch to be a place where everyone can exhale. A place where you are welcome exactly as you arrive that day.
