Looking back on the 2026 Arbor Day Celebration in the front yard of the Bushnell-Sage Library: Five hundred tree and shrub seedlings were given away, vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings were for sale, and the kid's mud kitchen was deliciously muddy! See next post for the back yard activities!

It was a BUSY start to Arbor Day weekend! 10 arborists of all sizes gathered to prune 28 trees on the Sheffield Green, at the Sheffield Historical Society, Town Hall, Shay's Rebellion monument, and along Main Street. Root Collar Excavations were performed on 7 trees as well. Certified Arborists from Ingersoll Land Care, Fenton Brook Services, Bartlett Tree Experts, and the Women's Tree Climbing Workshop climbed and cut, dragged and chipped.

Come by the Bushnell-Sage Library this morning for our annual Tree & Shrub giveaway! Our Arbor Day Proclamation, pruning, mulching, and planting demonstrations to follow! Bring the family! The fun starts at 10:00 AM!

SATURDAY, APRIL 25: The Sheffield Tree Project & Sheffield Land Trust celebrate Arbor Day & Earth Day with a Tree & Shrub Giveaway & much more. Bushnell-Sage Library, 48 Main St, Sheffield, 10am to 1pm—please, no early birds!

10 AM to 1 PM
~> GIVEAWAY: Red Cedar, Jack Pine, Sycamore, White Oak, American Hornbeam, Serviceberry, Flowering Dogwood, Witch Hazel, Viburnum Nannywood, Arrowwood, Highbush Cranberry, Bayberry, Beach Plum, and P***y Willow. All are welcome! First come, first served. Maximum of 3 seedlings per person until all are gone.

~> FARMERS’ MARKET SEEDLING SALE: Vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings.

~> MUD KITCHEN FOR KIDS: New playground equipment, thanks to the Friends. Dress to get dirty if you're 6 and under!

10:30 AM - into the AFTERNOON
~> ARBOR DAY PROCLAMATION followed by PRUNING, MULCHING, PLANTING DEMONSTRATION: By STP founder and Certified Arborist Tom Ingersoll. On the Library grounds. All are welcome to join in, learn how to plant a tree and get your hands in the dirt. We will continue on from here to plant other trees in Sheffield. Join in and add to Sheffield's municipal "forest"!
