There is a man standing on Antioch off the I-35 exit, right across from the Antioch Church entrance. He is holding a sign saying that he just got a job and needs a size 8 pair of steel toe work boots. Just in case anyone can help him.

🎣 Fishing for Success: Complete! 🎣

What an incredible day spent creating memories, building relationships, and teaching valuable life skills to our youth.

A huge thank you to The Rub BBQ for generously sponsoring lunch and keeping everyone fueled throughout the day. 🍽️

Thank you Minnesota Bait & Tackle for donating 500+ worms to ensure every child had the opportunity to experience the joy of fishing. 🪱🎣

To all of the mentors, volunteers, and families who came out to support this event—thank you for investing your time and energy into our younger generation and giving them the chance to unplug, connect with nature, and learn something new.

We truly believe events like these leave positive, long-lasting impressions that help shape confident, capable, and compassionate young people.

Lastly, thank you to our incredible Board Members whose teamwork, dedication, and commitment made this event possible. We couldn’t do it without you.

Today’s Fishing for Success event was a beautiful day, and we want to start by saying thank you to the parents and children who showed up and made it such a great experience. The weather was amazing, and we truly had a great time connecting, fishing, and making memories together. 🎣☀️

That being said, we want to address something important.

We had 43 children registered and 18 mentors signed up, but only about half of those actually attended. We completely understand that life happens and unexpected things come up. All we ask is for a quick text or message if you’re unable to make it.

When spots are reserved and then left unused, it takes opportunities away from others who may have wanted to attend. While OCC offers these events free of charge to families, they are not free for our organization. We provide lunch, fishing supplies, and poles for every child to use. This year, due to increased registrations, we purchased 20 extra fishing poles and prepared nearly double the amount of food needed.

We are grateful to be able to serve our community, and we want to continue doing so well.

We have two more Fishing for Success events planned this year — one in August and one in September — and we ask that everyone please be mindful when signing up. If you’re unsure if you can attend, we kindly ask that you wait so another child can have that opportunity.

AS OF 9:30AM TODAY WE STILL PLAN TO HOST THE FISHING EVENT. We will be providing lunch for the children and the mentors. If you are unable to make it due to the weather we completely understand. We will be hosting this event two more times this year so keep an eye out for those dates. We still hope to see you all today!
