Twice awarded Environmental Partnership Award of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. The non-profit Lehman Sanctuary is a unique diverse habitat featuring an older growth forest with 200+ year old Oaks and Eastern Pine. Our forest canopy in this designated Exceptional Values forested wetlands protects pristine vernal pools, spring seeps, and streams - home to rare amphibians, like the Four Toe

d Salamander. We adjoin a rare undisturbed marshland with a special Great Blue Heron rookery. Our prairie grass meadow is home to butterflies like the Cabbage White,Clouded Sulfur and the Great Spangled Fritillary. We are a two-time awardee of the Environmental Partnership Award of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. The Lehman Sanctuary is an outdoor nature edu-adventure for students, educators and adults since 2005 -- a STEM-focused environmental education program serving schools like Wyoming Valley Montessori School, Wyoming Seminary, Keystone Junior College and others. Our inaugural Chesapeake Bay Waters Connected program just gave NEPA teachers and watershed specialists an immersive, full circle watershed education on an historic Living Classroom’s sailing ship, on the Chesapeake Bay, our nation’s largest estuary. So delighted to launch this watershed training through the support of Robert H. Spitz Foundation of Scranton Area Foundation and Pennsylvania American Water Charitable Foundation.
