The Central Sierra Resiliency Fund supports the revitalization of the forests and communities surrounding Shaver Lake through land restoration, local stewardship, and economic efforts that honor the historical legacy of the Central Sierra region. The Central Sierra Resiliency Fund is a community initiative held at the Central Sierra Historical Society and Museum, Inc., a California 501(c) 3 tax ex

empt non-profit organization. In launching this effort, local community members and concerned professionals have collaborated to create a Resiliency Council to administer the restricted fund and determine funding recipients. We are collaborating with other local, state, and national organizations on projects to empower the local community to lead the revitalization effort after the Creek Fire. The Resiliency Fund will support long-term Creek Fire recovery efforts in communities within the vicinity of Fresno County’s Central Sierra region including, but not limited to, Huntington Lake, Lakeshore, Big Creek, Shaver Lake, Pine Ridge, Meadow Lakes, Alder Springs, and Auberry. Visit our Community Stories section to learn more about how the stories of our past inspire resilience among the Central Sierra communities and consider sharing your story. Our small but mighty crew sowed up the last bit of work for the season yesterday! We sowed about 6,500 seeds yesterday that will snuggle into their home for the next year at . We are rooting on those little guys to drink up this rain and germinate soon :)

I always have to giggle a bit at the end of a work day, when volunteers thank us for putting together the work day, when they should know good and well THEY are the ones we need to thank! Fir real, you're amazing and should tree-t yourself to something nice today ;) Our phenomenal volunteers are the reason we are able to continue this program to bring seedlings to our neighbors. Thank you guys for being apart of our journey! Take a bough!

A few weeks ago, we kicked off our Spring Season with a seedling lifting day! A great group of people gathered to lift seedlings from their snuggly beds and packaged them into boxes. The boxes are waiting in cold storage until planting begins-this weekend!

We have been working on some exciting things behind the scenes here at the Resiliency Fund! A lot of you are aware that we have worked closely with a local citrus grower in the valley to grow pine trees, but did you know we were up to something else?

After years of genetically modifying pine trees to closer relate to the local zone of fruit trees, then carefully bud grafting select individuals- we have successfully grafted orange and ponderosa pine trees!

This dwarf pine/citrus species is cold hardy to 5 degrees Fahrenheit and will bear fruit after 2 growing seasons. These trees reach a mature height of about 20 ft, allowing easy manual harvesting of the citrus bearing trees! Due to the nature of this product, these trees will require a drip water system unlike our other tree species, but rest assured, once established they should be able to tap into those conifer genetics and will take off!

We also haven’t come up with a name for this fun new species, so drop your name options in the comments!
