For the 3rd consecutive year, the Sharon High School Interact Club (Rotary's high school arm), along with students in Sra. Songer-Groeneweg's Spanish classes, prepared care packages for clients served by Joshua's Haven, AWARE, and the Community Action Partnership of Mercer County. Each care package includes a bottle of water, socks, soap, a washcloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a Christmas card and a candy cane. "The students realize that there are a lot of people less fortunate than they are," comments Songer-Groeneweg. "Even basic necessities can be seen as a welcome gift." In all, over 125 care packages were prepared and distributed.
In addition to the care packages, the students prepared Christmas cards for the residents at many of the local personal care homes, as well as for the Community Action Partnerships' Veterans' Christmas Party. Each card contained messages from the students and a candy cane. In all, close to 700 cards were prepared and distributed.
