Good Friday has always been one of my favorite days of Holy Week. Before grief stepped into my life I always wondered why it was called Good Friday. I knew it was because death was defeated and Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins but now I know it is more than that. The word good still felt out of place. How could something be good that physically hurt a man to the point of death.
Now I know that the good in Good Friday means promises are always good. The Lord didn’t say his promises will be immediate, won’t hurt, or be uncomfortable at times.
Good Friday gives us hope in the face of death. Hope in the face of child loss. Hope in the face of infertility. Hope in the face of whatever storm you are going through at the moment. Hope because we know our redeemer lives and continues to work in our lives even when we don’t see it.
We pray today is a day you can reflect on God’s promises of goodness and reunification in heaven. Friday is good because Sunday is coming!
“When the age of death is done we will see your face bright as the sun. We’ll bow before the king of kings. Oh God forever we will sing,
Behold the lamb, the story of redemption written on his hands. Jesus you will reign forevermore”
