Congratulations to David Mills, winner of the Auxiliary Window Raffle! David, a veteran, was very pleased with his win — and it turned out to be his lucky day because he also won the 50/50 drawing held before the raffle!
Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets, donated items, helped put the window together, and sold tickets. Your support made this fundraiser a wonderful success.
We would also like to thank Annapolis Nissan for their generous $500 donation to The Poppy Fund. Because of your continued support, our Poppy Fund continues to grow so that we can help local veterans, active duty military, and their families.
We truly appreciate everyone who helped make this fundraiser possible!

Beautiful day with our American Legion Family.

Poppies are available at The Post all day today and all weekend. Come in to get one, and show support for our fallen.

The red poppy speaks where words fall short — a silent tribute to the sacrifices made for our freedom by the heroes who served and died for our country in all wars. ❤️‍🩹 The poppy is a reminder that their courage will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

After World War I, the American Legion Family brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day as National Poppy Day.

The Auxiliary promotes the poppy as a symbol of the sacrifices our military have made, a symbol to open people’s hearts and inspire them to donate to help support the future of veterans, servicemembers, and their families. 🇺🇸

Today, on National Poppy Day, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living. ❤️

We still have:
• Raffle window tickets

Students from Severn River Middle School are hard at work preparing poppies for distribution to fellow students at SRMS in honor of National Poppy Day this Friday, May 22.
As part of the observance, a brief presentation will be shared with all students on Friday to highlight the meaning of the poppy and to remember and honor the sacrifices of our veterans and fallen service members.
We are proud to see these students helping keep the spirit of remembrance and patriotism alive in our community.

Preparing for National Poppy Day means getting ready to honor and remember the sacrifices of our veterans and fallen service members while educating others about the meaning of the red poppy.
For many members of the American Legion Auxiliary, preparation includes:
Distributing poppies in the community
Setting up remembrance displays
Sharing the history of the poppy symbol
Encouraging donations to support veterans and military families
Planning ceremonies, school visits, or Memorial Day activities
Taking time personally to reflect on the cost of freedom
The poppy itself represents remembrance, hope, and gratitude. Its meaning comes from the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields” and from the work of Moina Michael, who encouraged Americans to wear poppies in memory of those who served.
