Water Shortage Alert – Highlands County 🚨

Portions of Highlands County served by the Southwest Florida Water Management District are under a Modified Phase II (“Severe”) Water Shortage due to ongoing dry conditions.

This means one-day-per-week landscape watering restrictions are in effect – including for residents using private wells.

These restrictions are in place Feb. 8, 2026, through July 1, 2026.

Dry conditions across our region have increased stress on water supplies. Limiting irrigation helps protect our groundwater resources and ensures water remains available for essential needs.

Residents should:
• Limit lawn and landscape watering to one day per week
• Check their assigned watering day
• Avoid unnecessary water use

For full details and to confirm watering schedules, visit: WaterMatters.org/Restrictions

Let’s work together to conserve water and protect Highlands County’s resources.

With temperatures expected to drop into the mid-20s over the next few days, make sure you’re dressing appropriately for the cold.

Layering clothing keeps body heat in and protects against wind chill. As shown in the graphic:

🧥 Cold:
• Wear 2+ layers
• Add a warm hat & gloves
• Choose warm, waterproof shoes

🧥❄ Extreme Cold (around freezing & below):
• Wear 3+ layers
• Protect your head, ears, hands, and face
• Waterproof outer layers help block cold and wind

Even short periods in low temperatures can lead to hypothermia, especially in young children, older adults, and pets.

✔ Dress warm, limit outdoor exposure, and bring pets indoors.

Stay safe and stay warm, Highlands County!
