On 9/11/26, there was a memorial held at the park in rememberance of 9/11/01. The Sebastian Police Department took several photos of which this was one. The ladies in the first row are from our local VFW and the rest are members of the American Legion auxililary. There were also AL Auxiliary members in attendance standing and sitting elsewhere. We will never forget what happened on that horrible day, 25 years ago.

There will be a ceremony at Riverview Park on Friday, September 11th to commemorate 9/11/01. The morning of remembrance will start at 8:30 am and will be hosted by the American Legion Post 189, Squadron 189-Sons of the American Legion, and the Sebastian Area Veteran Honor Guard. 9/11 has been designated as Patriots Day. It will be 25 years ago on Friday, September 11, 2026, that our country was attacked and almost 3,000 souls were taken from us. Come to the Riverview Park and honor all of people who died that day and who have subsequently passed as a direct result of that horrible day.

After the ceremony concludes, coffee and Danish will be offered to the public at American Legion Post 189 located on Louisiana Ave.

Thor Hammerlund Have you seen this?

We don’t often repost graphics, but this one deserves another look.

Have you ever wondered who performs the military honors at a veteran’s funeral? In many communities, it’s volunteers—many well into their retirement years—who continue serving with pride and dedication.

Their commitment is inspiring, but they can’t do it forever.

We’re sharing this again because awareness is the first step. Please help us reach younger veterans who may be looking for a meaningful way to continue serving their fellow veterans and their families.

🇺🇸 A simple share could help preserve this honored tradition for generations to come.
