Ramadan Food Parcels for Refugee Families in Cairo

Many refugee families observing Ramadan this month in Cairo are struggling to meet their most basic needs. Rising food prices and limited access to work leave parents facing daily uncertainty about how to put food on the table.

The Ayla Project is running a Ramadan food parcel fundraiser to support refugee families during this critical time. Each parcel contains essential staples to help families prepare meals throughout the month with dignity and care.

Our goal is to support 25 families by raising $1,000 — just $40 per family can help ensure consistent access to nutritious, life-giving food during Ramadan.

Dear Friend of the Ayla Project,

Seasons Greetings! While there is unprecedented darkness in this world in which we live, it has failed to overcome the light. We gathered a thoughtful, committed group of citizens - yourself included - to support a group of civilian families evacuated from the Gaza war. Together, ordinary citizens were able to accomplish the extraordinary. As we close 2025, there is reason for hope and celebration. Because of you:

22 evacuated civilians, including 14 children, were not casualties of the Gaza war. They received safe housing and trauma informed counseling and care to help them process what they endured.
14 Palestinian children who were out of school for over a year are now learning and growing in school, as children should.
Adam Lulu, who is severely disabled, will soon have a custom built wheelchair that will change his life.
Lulu (pictured here) is now receiving treatment for her heart at Rome’s Vatican Bambino Gesu hospital.
Doctors in Milan were able to complete a full repair of 4-year old Lara’s heart.
Ayla launched an income generation program. Ayla beneficiaries are selling their embroidery, art, and are generating income through online work.

Life finds a way. Through the darkness, light finds a way. Thank you for your past support.

We have now raised $55,000 toward our $60,000 campaign. As we close 2025, please consider supporting the work and life giving mission of the Ayla project to empower critically-ill or injured war refugee children and their families to flourish by providing safe relocation, medical and psychological care, and educational and income generation support. Donations given up until December 31st are tax-deductible in this calendar year. If we reach (or exceed) our goal, we will be able to expand the number of refugee families we support. Thank you!

Empowering Girls and Women, One Conversation at a Time

This month, Ayla Project International, in partnership with VERA Egypt, Meerah Center, and HOME Hospital, launched the first menstrual health training sessions for Gazan refugee women and girls in Egypt — a space for learning, confidence, and connection.

The sessions reached women and girls aged 11 to 40, many of whom were engaging in open discussions about their health for the very first time. The feedback was deeply inspiring:

💬 “I learned how to deal with my menstrual cycle without fear.” – 13-year-old participant
💬 “I benefited a lot from this session. I learned how to teach my daughter and strengthen our relationship.” – Participant, mother of two
💬 “Teach boys about their bodies!” – Participant’s suggestion, sparking future dialogue
💬 “It was excellent! Thank you so much! I love you.” – 11-year-old girl

A short pre- and post-quiz showed that girls scored up to 80% on key menstrual health questions, reflecting increased knowledge and awareness.

These sessions are more than training — they are a step toward dignity, understanding, and community for women and girls who continue to rebuild their lives with courage and hope.

Together, we are breaking taboos, restoring confidence, and creating spaces where women and girls can learn, share, and thrive.
