South East Seattle Families:
Emerson Elementary is hosting an evening of child safety training in partnership with the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC) on October 20, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Library. This session will provide families with practical tools and strategies related to personal safety, online safety, concerning behaviors, talking with children about abuse, and responding supportively to children’s concerns.

Are you registered to vote? Can you vote🤔 (questioning face emoji)
Sometimes we get asked if people with developmental disabilities can vote. Answer, yes - assuming they meet the residency and other requirements all voters must meet, and assuming their right to vote was not removed during a guardianship process.

*If you did not know, having a disability does NOT disqualify you from voting.
*You don't have to prove you can vote, but you may need to speak up and assert that you WANT to vote if you go through a guardianship process.
*That's not fair (others aren't held to that standard), but it seems to be what WA courts expect

(And parents: If you are seeking guardianship, do your loved one a solid and make sure they retain the right to vote 🙂 )

Voting works best when we show up for each other.

On Saturday, Oct 17, from 4 to 7 PM, the Somali Family Safety Task Force is welcoming King County Elections to the NewHolly Gathering Hall. Their trained staff will be there for registration, address updates, replacement ballots, accessible voting units, and any question you've been wondering about.

Everyone eligible to vote is invited. Know a neighbor, classmate, or relative who could use a hand? Share this post and bring them along.
