Treaties are legally binding agreements that shape the government-to-government relationship between Tribes and the United States. But their history is also one of broken promises and the ongoing fight by Native peoples to uphold their rights, sovereignty and ways of life. Hear from local tribal historians and leaders as they discuss the histories and futures of these treaties and the continued work to protect Tribal rights and sovereignty.

There are still open spots on Monday, September 21 for the Window Preservation Fieldschool! At this workshop you will learn how to do hands-on basic wood window repair, using traditional materials and techniques, through reglazing and performing minor wood repair on the octagonal turret windows from the Snoqualmie Depot. The lead instructor will be Sarah Steen, the King County Historic Landmarks Coordinator.

It's hard to overestimate the positive impact he had on the Smithsonian. He will be missed.

Few museum leaders have shaped the field as profoundly as Lonnie G. Bunch III.



Throughout a remarkable career, Lonnie challenged museums to tell fuller stories, engage broader audiences, and embrace the responsibilities that come with public trust.

His leadership transformed institutions, expanded public understanding of history, and helped redefine what museums can achieve.

His impact on AAM and the broader museum community spans decades, and his influence will be felt for generations.

Today, we congratulate Lonnie on an extraordinary career and celebrate all he has contributed to museums, museum professionals, and the communities they serve.
