Yesler loading… the future is now.

In 2018, billboards appeared across the Central District, but instead of announcing new commercial development, they presented a vision of a beautiful future where Seattle's Black community thrives.

Now it’s time to keep the vision alive.

Join Imagine Africatown: Yesler Design Day and bring your ideas to the table to design the future of the Yesler Cultural Corridor.

We did it on Union, let’s do it again on Yesler.

10 years ago, the future of 23rd and Union was in the balance. Midtown Center was slated to be demolished and full-fledged Black business displacement seemed inevitable.

Then, the community said no.

We imagined Africatown together and transformed Union into the Black business corridor with affordable housing you see today with:
-9 Black-owned businesses
-20 art installations by Black artists
-240 new affordable apartments
-Afro-centric building design in place of cookie-cutter development
-And a place for Black community to celebrate and connect

Let’s do it again, even better, on Yesler.

Bring your voice to the table for Yesler Design Day.
