State of Africatown 2026 brought Mayor Katie Wilson to the stage, who shared, “listening is not worth much without accountability and action… As your mayor, I carry with me our city’s complicated legacy including the history of the Central District and the fact that more than 70% of the Black population this neighborhood has been pushed out. We know that what we see today in the Central District is a series of policy decisions past and present, as we have heard today, at all levels of government.”

Watch Mayor Wilson’s full address along with responses from King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and City Council President Joy Hollingsworth here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPHjzJjGpGI&t=4492s
