We were honoured to welcome Lawdan Bazargan as a guest speaker at HerStories: Beyond Silence—Courage Across Borders, held on March 7, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, in recognition of International Women’s Day.

This powerful evening brought together artists, scholars, activists, survivors, and community members for a meaningful program of art, testimony, and dialogue focused on the experiences of women living under religious and theocratic oppression. Through shared stories and creative expression, participants fostered understanding, healing, and solidarity across borders.

Lawdan delivered a compelling presentation highlighting the stories of women who lost their lives to so-called “honour killings” and shed light on the impact of Sharia law and other religiously justified practices that affect the rights and freedoms of women. Her courageous voice helped spark important conversations about human rights, gender equality, and the need to stand against all forms of violence and discrimination.

We are deeply grateful to Lawdan and to everyone who joined us in making this evening of reflection, awareness, and community possible.

At our HerStories: Beyond Silence event, one of the most powerful moments came from a voice that wasn’t in the room.
Vinal, a Yazidi survivor, first opened up about her experience during one of our online sessions — a profound act of trust.

Though a family emergency kept her from joining us in Phoenix, her story was carried to our stage with love and care by Amal, a fellow Yazidi refugee who made it all possible.
We are endlessly grateful to both of them.

To Vinal: your courage is not lost. It lives in every person who heard your story and felt less alone — and in every voice it may have inspired to finally speak.
To Amal: thank you for being the bridge between silence and truth.

🎥 Vinal’s full testimony is available on our YouTube channel — watch it, share it, let her voice reach further. Link in bio.
This is why we do this work. 🤍

Caption:
Internet isn’t a luxury—in Iran, it’s survival.
Millions are cut off.
No news. No contact. No voice.
While propaganda flows freely, truth is silenced.
Same country. Same network. Different access.

I-WILL stands with the people of Iran and demands free, open internet access for all.

Speak up. Demand action. Let Iran be heard.

Trigger Warning ⚠️
This video contains discussions and footage of torture, acid attacks, burns, disfigurement, and state violence.

We were honored to welcome Dr. Sona Kazemi as a guest speaker at HerStories: Beyond Silence—Courage Across Borders, hosted on March 7, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, in recognition of International Women’s Day.

This extraordinary evening brought together artists, scholars, activists, survivors, and community members for an inspiring program of art, testimony, and dialogue addressing violence against women under religious and theocratic regimes. Through shared stories and creative expression, the event created space for truth, healing, and solidarity across borders.

Dr. Kazemi shared powerful insights from her book, Disabling Relations, centering the voices of disabled survivors within the contexts of state power, nationalist rhetoric, supranational law and diplomacy, and capitalist imperialism. She also discussed her chapter Burning Wounds, examining acid attacks as a form of patriarchal violence facilitated by the state, and how ableism, toxic masculinity, and impunity are used to control women’s bodies, futures, and autonomy.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Kazemi and all who joined us in making this evening of courage, awareness, and community possible.

We invite you to listen to her full speech on our YouTube channel (link in bio).

Just one day before Nowruz, the most important celebration in Persian culture, the cowards of the Islamic regime in Iran executed a teenager along with two other prisoners—for the “crime” of demanding freedom.

Saleh Hosseini was only 19—a wrestling champion. He was publicly hanged after being arrested during the January protests without a fair trial and tortured into a forced confession.

He was executed alongside two other young men, also detained during the protests, in what human rights groups describe as part of a broader crackdown meant to silence dissent and instill fear.

A state that has miserably failed to respond to real crises continues to take its wrath out on its own people—targeting even its youth, even its athletes.

On March 7, 2026, we gather in Phoenix for an evening of truth, courage, and collective power.

HerStories: Beyond Silence — Courage Without Borders is a community event honoring International Women’s Day by elevating the voices of women who have endured some of the world’s most painful injustices — from Yazidi women, and men, who survived the ISIS genocide, to women in Iran fighting for freedom, to survivors of domestic violence.

Hosted by the Iranian Women’s Institute for Life & Liberty (I-WILL), this powerful evening will unite art, storytelling, lived experience, and dialogue across cultures and continents. Together, we face difficult truths, honor voices too often unheard, and build a shared path toward justice.

We are honored to feature;

Basem is a Yazidi Painter, Designer, and Visual Artist. He was just 17 years old in Sinjar when the Yazidi genocide began — a moment that changed his life forever.
In the years that followed, art became both his refuge and his voice. His distinctive style blends expressive linework and intricate designs, allowing him to transform raw emotion into beautiful, textured compositions.
Through his work, Basem honors the experiences of the Yazidi people, preserving stories of loss, resilience, and survival while also celebrating the richness and pride of Yazidi culture. His art stands as a testament to both healing and heritage.
