"Really get to know the neighbors, and learn from them what makes the place tick. Gain the trust of your partners and the community so they will make the leap with you. Be prudent and go slow, for there are swift punishments for getting it wrong. Enlist a strong board and listen to them when you disagree, but be stubborn in the big things. Remember the public interest. Never boast."

What you water will grow. 🌱

Thanks to the thoughtfulness of our network, Seattle Parks Foundation has been able to expand our garden of partners to 136 community-led groups and 150+ projects across the region! 💚

This work is sustained by your generosity. Together, we sow seeds of impact through efforts like environmental education, creating accessible green spaces, and empowering underrepresented communities and professionals.

There’s still time to support grassroots projects in and around the Emerald City! Our matching goal has grown to $6,500 thanks to another longtime supporter! We’re 25% of the way there, help us unlock the entire match: https://give.seattleparksfoundation.org/campaign/700810/donate?c_src=GiveBIG_socials

Tomorrow, neighbors across Seattle will take a little time to connect; say hi, check in, share a laugh, or do something kind. No perfection required. No big plans needed. Just people, showing up for each other.

This year is extra special. Neighbor Day 2026 kicks off the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ 35th Anniversary, which is a yearlong celebration of community, connection, and the power of neighbors working together. 🎉

Nominations for Good Neighbor Awards will also open tomorrow! Know someone in your community who shows kindness, builds connections, or makes your neighborhood a little better than they found it? Consider recognizing them with a nomination! 💚

Our partner Duwamish Alive Coalition hosted their biannual multi-site volunteer work party over the weekend! Community members gathered for a day of restoration, beautifying Herring’s House Park, həʔapus Village Park and Shoreline Habitat, and Pigeon Point Park.

Before volunteers dispersed for the day, the coalition recognized four individuals with the John Beal Environmental Stewardship Award: Bob Weeks, Willard Brown, Vince Savery, and Whitney Fraser.

We couldn’t ask for a better village of volunteers!

Many of the hardworking people leading and supporting neighborhood projects in our region are doing so off the clock and in their downtime. Thank you for fostering a culture of altruism by caring for our communities and the environment. 💚

This week, we’re honoring and recognizing not just our volunteers, but the earth as well. Join our partners in celebrating each other and this beautiful place we call home. 🌎
