Last Friday (May 22) we didn’t have our annual Memorial Day event with the school at the Cleveland Memorial Forest for the first time in many years (we deeply apologize). To ensure we gave respect to our CHS alumni Honored Dead, we planted three trees in their memory on behalf of the CHS alumni.
Shout out to those who were able to show up on late notice to help - Jim Arnold (‘82), Kevin Lim (Sealth ‘80), Dana Tsuboi Lim (‘80), Julianne (Kono) Eng (‘80), Nicole R. Washington (‘80), Tony Chinn (‘76), his wife (Franklin ‘76), Tracy Case Arnold (‘82), and our special guest, Bernie Moskowicz (‘57) and his wife, Ann. Special thanks to Scott Sakagami (‘80) for his expertise and guidance. And Emil Martin (‘40), Ed Boprey (‘45), and Bob Boprey (‘48) for offering to help and reminding us why this is an important place in our CHS history.

We received 3 trees from the 300 Trees program to plant - Incense Cedar, Beaked Hazelnut, and Douglas-fir. We are going to check into future plantings in 2027 to mark the CHS 100th Anniversary.

If you are interested in helping with the CHS Forest Committee, please let us know. We want to keep the Memorial Day event going (especially next year). We also need to make some improvements at the Forest and need the help.

On this Memorial Day 2026, we proudly honor the fallen eagles of CHS who perished serving our country in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars.

“Their sacrifice was the ultimate act of love for their country. May we always remember them.” — Unknown

Their names of our Honored Dead are found on our website as well as listed on the monuments located at the Cleveland High School Memorial Forest and the Tahoma National Cemetery.

The video on the website based on the book “HONORED DEAD” written by Patricia (Sullivan) Rosenkranz ’49, who passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021. (note - we're having the webmaster fix the video so it can be shown)

HELLO CLEVELAND FAMILIES,

On Wednesday, we hosted over 300 student athletes, coaches, athletics staff and families at our 2nd Annual Talon Awards! The evening started with a catered taco dinner provided by Beacon Hill favorite, Carnitas Michoacan and a silent auction that raised over $4,400 for Cleveland Athletics. A big thanks to both Carnitas Michoacan and Cleveland Alumni Association who donated generously as event sponsors.

Special guests included keynote speaker Donald Watts, former UW Huskies basketball standout and one of the most decorated high school players in Washington state history, the Cleveland Alumni Association board and members of the 1979 Cleveland Football Metro Championship team who were inducted into the Cleveland Hall of Fame.

The highlight of the evening was celebrating our Eagle athletic standouts for their outstanding dedication and achievement in their respective sports. Thank you to all who volunteered, attended, purchased a silent auction item, and supported your Eagle athlete this school year. Each of your gestures of support have made a difference for this Eagle athletics community!
