Childhood cancer took one of Matt’s kidneys, but
the one he kept was up to the task. It saw him through
wrestling matches with his brothers, endless hours on
his local sports fields, four rigorous years of study at
and a fast-paced career. It has been
a loyal fan to all of Matt’s favorite PNW teams and has
walked every golf course mile.
Most importantly, this one hero of a kidney has allowed Matt to be there for, and with, his family and
friends. His quiet strength is a cornerstone, and everything he sends out into the world is a piece of what the world needs. This is because Matt has always known what matters, and lives accordingly.
Right now, time is not on Matt’s side. His kidney failed over a year ago, and he is entering his second
year on dialysis. The life expectancy of someone on dialysis is five years, with the expected wait for a
kidney in the US being three to five years. There are 100,000 people waiting.
The only way to mitigate these daunting numbers is through live kidney donation. Is this where you
come in? Do you have a piece of your timeline to share? (Important fact: kidney donation does not
shorten the donor’s lifespan.) If you are curious about how it all works, or, to find out if you are a match,
please visit teammattferg.com or follow the links in our bio. You can also call the program directly at (206) 598-3627. The University of Washington Medical Center is where Matt’s transplant would take place, and where he currently receives dialysis. The living donor process is commitment free and completely anonymous whether you are gathering information or testing for compatibility. Again, thank you so much for your time. Living donation is on the rise, offering hope, alternatives, and possibilities to thousands – and to
Matt.
