SAF’s May calendar spotlight belongs to Lucy and her proud parents, Bob and Fay Krokower.

Lucy is a 12-year-old terrier mix who found her forever home in July 2015 after being rescued from a Southern California shelter. She was briefly returned to the shelter after being mistakenly diagnosed with mammary swelling as tumors, but thanks to a dedicated volunteer (bless the volunteers!) who shared her story, Lucy got a second chance.

Believing she was too young for that diagnosis; her family brought her home—and she turned out perfectly healthy. Sweet, friendly, and smart, Lucy fills her home with joy and love every day. Her gentle nature and loving personality make her a cherished member of the family.

Seattle Animal Foundation is happy to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the Buffalo Exchange Tokens for Bags® program for 2026. You can now donate to SAF just by shopping at Buffalo Exchange in Ballard. Instead of a plastic bag, the Tokens for Bags® program offers every customer who makes a purchase one “token” valued at five cents (the cost to produce a bag) to donate to one of several local charities selected by the store. The program has generated over $1,004,000 for thousands of local nonprofit organizations since 1994 and has saved over 20.07 million plastic bags from the landfill.

Our January models are alums loved beyond measure by their family and mom, Mindy Fitzgerald.

Charlie (7) and Theo (2) are two big, lovable mutts who found their way home through Seattle Animal Shelter—Charlie adopted in 2018 and Theo a happy foster fail in 2023. Charlie was found tied to a fence in north Seattle, and Theo came to the shelter as a case dog before being surrendered. Now exactly where they belong, these goofy best friends bring endless unconditional love, constant reminders to slow down and enjoy the walk, plenty of on-demand snuggles, and a constant expectation of treats. Charlie’s signature move is sitting on anyone who kneels on the floor as well as his hippity-hoppities, while Theo—affectionately known as the “bunny-pig”—hops and snorts when excited. Together, they’re a reliable reminder that no matter what life brings, love (and treats) always help.
