It is not common knowledge that the US exports horses to be slaughtered in other countries. The US needs to follow the UK’s example and ban the inhumane practice of exporting animals for slaughter.
🚨 A MAJOR SHIFT FOR ANIMAL WELFARE IN THE UK 🚨
After years of debate, Great Britain has officially banned the live export of animals for slaughter and fattening.
That means the long, exhausting journeys—often across borders and beyond the reach of UK welfare laws—are coming to an end.
For animals like horses, sheep, and cattle, transport has long been one of the most stressful parts of their lives. Hours… sometimes days… in crowded conditions. Heat, cold, dehydration, and fatigue. And once they leave the country, the protections they had no longer follow.
This new law changes that.
It applies to England, Scotland, and Wales, while Northern Ireland remains under different trade rules. There are still exemptions for breeding and certain sectors, but the direction is clear.
This is about drawing a line.
A recognition that welfare doesn’t stop at the border—and that these journeys should never have been the norm.
Brexit made it legally possible. Public pressure made it happen.
Now, all eyes turn to the rest of Europe.
Will others follow?
Because for many of us, horses aren’t just animals in a system.
They’re partners, companions… and they deserve better. 🐎❤️
