Trunk Show is a little more than a month away!

If you haven’t already marked your calendars for May 8th, set an hour or two aside to stop by the Annual PNW Parent Education Trunk Show.

It’s our annual fundraiser that helps fund our free parent education events throughout the year! PNW Parent Education is all about building a stronger community through our parent education events, and this is the one social event that helps us solidify community through an in-person Makers Market! We love supporting our local vendors who live and work in our extended neighborhood.

Scroll through to see our current list of vendors. Bring a few friends for social time, sips, and shopping!

Hope to see you May 8th, 5-8 pm at the Ballard Elks Lodge #827.

P.S. Trunk Show is the Friday before Mother’s Day, so come get yourself some goodies or a treat for the mothers/mother figures in your life!

Ray Lozano, veteran prevention educator and youth motivational speaker will talk to our community about drug use prevention

May 19, 1026
12-1 PT on zoom

Get ready to learn. Ray Lozano speaks in a judgment-free, science-based way about drug prevention. You’re going to walk away with small, practical shifts that make a big difference in how youth hear, and respond to, your message.

✅ Initiating Conversations Without Conflict: Parents will feel more capable of starting conversations about alcohol and va**ng in a calm, non-confrontational manner. They will gain practical tools for opening dialogue in ways that reduce defensiveness, increase receptivity, and encourage youth to participate in the conversation rather than avoid it.

✅ Communicating Without Lecturing or Judging: Parents will develop greater confidence in using neutral, nonjudgmental language that preserves trust and minimizes resistance. This includes learning how to express expectations and concerns clearly without relying on fear-based messaging, over-explaining, or corrective lecturing that can undermine communication.

✅ Maintaining Ongoing, Trust-Based Dialogue: Parents will feel equipped to move beyond one-time “talks” and instead sustain ongoing, low-pressure conversations over time. This approach reinforces protective factors, strengthens the parent–child relationship, and supports healthier decision-making as youth encounter new social pressures.

Thanks to everyone who joined our live conversation with Amy Lang, MA, about adolescent relationships and how to have “the talk” with middle and high schoolers. Amy introduced the 5 Ps to guide talks: Personally/Emotionally ready, Pressure, Practical, Pleasure, and P**n.

She encouraged starting early and talking often, gave homework to have one intentional conversation this week, and shared practical tips—sit side-by-side to reduce pressure, avoid direct eye contact, keep chats short and approachable, and use texts, email, or even Post-it notes if that works best.

If you attended and haven’t completed the post-event survey, please fill it out (link in bio). We value your feedback very much!

Thank you to those that were able to join us for our conversation with Dr. Lisa Damour about pragmatic approaches to social technologies. We followed this up with a mental health Q&A with Dr. Katja Ermann, a psychologist , and Susanna Strode, LICSW.

We had a great turnout, and there were engaging, insightful questions from the attendees. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to join us!

Dr. Damour encouraged us to take a stepwise approach to social technologies based on ages and stages of our kids without having to make all or nothing decisions. She also discussed the potential benefits of social technologies (from texting to social media) as well as concerns to look out for with use of social technologies. Dr. Damour provided practical tips for initiating the use of social technologies and for monitoring and progressing as kids get older.

Be sure to check out our Social Technologies event resource page. It’s filled with FREE resources from Dr. Damour!
