In the Pacific Northwest, we aim to build community and to bring together the many new Austrian-Americans in the Seattle area. The Washington State Chapter of the Austrian-American Council was founded in 1997 by Claire Rood, who served as President until 2015. The goal of the non-profit is to foster good will between the People of the United States and Austria, through art exchanges and cross-cult

ural events. Christina Calio, Claire's daughter, is taking up the position of President in 2022. The AAC WA team includes:

April 17 marks the Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. We should never forget the importance of remembering the horrors imposed in the past and make sure they will never repeat, that we will never forget.

The Holocaust Center of Humanity in Seattle observes the Holocaust Remembrance Day with program and presentation by survivor Agi Day. You can join virtually at https://holocaustcenterseattle.org/programs-events/yom-hashoah-2023-online-program which begins at 7pm PT.
You can also observe this important day through music at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh5NGxFsQO0 with Wertheim Park, a setting of the poetry of Susan de Sola by composer Lori Laitman, was commissioned by Music of Remembrance in 2022 to mark its landmark 25th concert season. Soprano Alisa Jordheim interprets this haunting song, a deeply moving elegy for the Dutch Jews lost to the Holocaust. The stellar instrumental ensemble, drawn from the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, features Laura DeLuca, clarinet; Mikhail Schmidt, violin; Jonathan Green, double bass; and Mina Miller, piano.
