NBTS (Not Back to School) Park Day is one month away on Friday, September 13 from 12:00-3:00PM at Wallingford Playground Park! All homeschoolers - past, present, and prospective - are welcome to attend, so feel free to share it with other homeschoolers in your communities!

Plan to bring a picnic lunch, books or curriculum to swap, and any field games you think would be fun! A picnic blanket or camping chairs might be nice too! It will be a casual affair and a way to welcome new homeschoolers and reconnect with old ones after the summer!

Seattle Homeschool Group (SHG) has developed a survey to gauge the health and quality of the homeschool community in the local Seattle metro area, especially as it relates to ways SHG can improve connection among homeschooling families in the region.

All Seattle-area homeschooling families are welcome and encouraged to fill out the survey, so please feel free to forward it along! The survey will also be cross-posted in other groups.

Grab yourself (and your teens and tweens if you’ve got them) and let’s go to the movies on Friday, February 9th at 8pm!!

In addition to all the great programming Children's Film Festival Seattle is putting on between Feb 2-10th, there’s one that is particularly interesting this year- the debut screening of 𝙃𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙙- “this heartwarming documentary follows six high schoolers, all homeschooled for different reasons, as they emotionally prepare for the end of the year 'Homeschooler’s Prom’".

Northwest Film Forum is screening 𝙃𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙙 on Friday, February 9th at 8pm, along with some other fun stuff happening beforehand for folks, like a free drop-in silkscreening workshop (with María Zamora from Pratt) from 5:30-6:30pm (dress accordingly!) and a ticketed screening of the 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘢 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘎𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘴? film shorts program at 6:30pm (ages 13+).

Just another heads up that 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 is happening this week! And it’s online! Available right this very minute! 😁

There had been a pre-COVID homeschooling tradition of meeting up in the theater to watch the various programs of film shorts geared for kids and teens but if you can’t make it out, you can watch from home, between now and Feb 10th (Saturday)! Tickets to the individual programs are on a sliding scale of $5-25 + $2 service fee or consider a festival pass for $100-$150!

Some of the highlights of this year’s film shorts lineup include: 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 (ages 8+), 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨 (ages 10+), 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡 (ages 12+), 𝙑𝙞𝙖𝙟𝙚𝙨 𝙮 𝙎𝙪𝙚𝙣̃𝙤𝙨 (all in Spanish with English subtitles), 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (ages 13+), 𝙈𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙋𝙧𝙚́𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙨 (in French with English subtitles), 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙡 (a Youth Filmmaker Showcase!), 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙩 (ages 8+), 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 (ages 14+), 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙖 𝙈𝙚𝙨𝙨, 𝙄 𝙂𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙨 (struggles of teen-hood!), 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙎𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙨 (all ages) and so much more!
