Our team is growing! 🎉

We are actively accepting applications for the Community and Engagement Coordinator opening at our organization.

The Community and Engagement Coordinator will serve as the on-site, first point of contact for visitors, tenants, and community members at the Skyway Resource Center. This position provides excellent customer service, assists with general inquiries, and ensures smooth day-to-day front desk operations. The position will also support administrative tasks, set up events, help coordinate space usage, and assist with communication efforts to keep the community informed about available resources and events.

Earlier this year, we awarded six recipients via our Youth Sparks Grant Project.

The Youth Sparks Grant Project is youth-centered and youth-inspired. Our organization is honored to be entrusted with this process and are excited to share some midpoint updates!

Each organization’s programs have varying timelines, but we’d love to share some of the updates we’ve received so far!

BELONG Partners:

In March 2026, BELONG Partners launched the program with the Legacies of Love workshop, creating space for families to reflect on their hopes and dreams for their children and begin building connections with one another.

(RSD) - Native American Education Program (NAE):

RSD NAE program focused on grant initiatives of increasing cultural identity and awareness, supporting at-risk students, and improving academic achievement through gatherings, focus groups, and field trips.

Skyway Rising:

Skyway Rising successfully hosted Spring Bling, welcoming 263 rising fifth-grade students and their family members as they prepared for the transition to middle school.

Urban Family Center Association dba Urban Family:

Urban Family built the runway for a strong Skyway youth leadership season. During the midpoint period, they moved from grant planning into launch readiness: they organized staff roles, designed youth leadership labs, coordinated with school and community partners, prepared materials, and began outreach to youth and families.

Projects in the works:

At the Root LLC is in the final stages of planning for their Healing Connections for Mothers and Daughters event.

Dare2Be has hosted several youth-centered events this year, with a handful more in the works, such as the Boom Pow Collective Transformer day in August.

Skyway neighbors: Help imagine a new neighborhood for your community.

Homestead Community Land Trust, Skyway Coalition and our partners are planning a new Skyway neighborhood with permanently affordable homeownership and welcoming green spaces where people can gather, play, garden, connect with nature, and put down roots for generations.

We want the community to help shape what comes next.

Join us Sunday, August 30, from 11 AM–2 PM at the Skyway Resource Center, 12610 76th Ave. S.

Come see the latest plans for:
• Affordable homeownership
• Community gathering spaces
• Children’s play areas
• Gardens and native landscaping
• Walking paths and open space

The design team will give short presentations at 11:15 AM, 12:15 PM, and 1:15 PM. Drop in anytime to explore the displays, ask questions, talk with the team, and share your ideas.

Over the past year, Skyway neighbors have already helped shape this vision. Now we want to hear what you think about where it’s headed.

“The final workshop was a powerful reminder that community wealth is built through relationships. Over four sessions, we saw neighbors from every stage of life—elders, youth, longtime residents, new arrivals, families, and community leaders—come together to shape a shared vision for Skyway’s future. Together, we affirmed what we’ve learned, identified who still needs to be at the table, and laid the groundwork for building a stronger Community Development Association. As someone who grew up in Skyway, whose parents still live here, and who is now raising my own son here, it has been an incredible privilege to bring People’s Economy Lab’s community wealth-building work home. I’m excited to continue partnering with Skyway Coalition as we turn these conversations into lasting community power,” said Lab Leader Njuguna Gishuru.

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their evenings to attend our Anti-Displacement Workshop Series in partnership with People's Economy Lab. It has been an absolute pleasure to sit down with community over the past few months to carve out a tangible future for Skyway.

Over the past few months, we have held three workshops as part of our "Anti-Displacement Workshop Series" in collaboration with People's Economy Lab.

This series is designed to support leaders, organizations, and residents (past and present) who want to strengthen local strategies to combat displacement, make development more equitable and build shared community wealth.

Across the series, we've explored the Community Development Association model, studied Community Wealth Building, and mapped current affordable housing and anti-displacement projects in Skyway.

Join us for the final session of the Skyway Anti-Displacement Workshop Series on Wednesday, July 15th, as we bring together what we’ve learned and begin shaping the next phase of Skyway’s community-led anti-displacement strategy.

The Skyway Farmers Market is returning this weekend!

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of remembrance, resistance, and celebration of Black freedom and joy.

We honor the legacy of those who fought for liberation, and recommit ourselves to building a future rooted in justice, equity, and collective care.

Please note our office will be closed in honor of Juneteenth.

From Learning to Community Power: Building Skyway’s CDA Strategy Together

Join us for the final session of the Skyway Anti-Displacement Workshop Series as we bring together what we’ve learned and begin shaping the next phase of Skyway’s community-led anti-displacement strategy.

Across the series, we've explored the Community Development Association model, studied Community Wealth Building, and mapped current affordable housing and anti-displacement projects in Skyway. In this final session, we'll share back key themes gathered from community members and partners, reflect on what priorities have emerged, and discuss what role a future Skyway CDA can play in protecting affordability, strengthening community ownership, coordinating partners, and building long-term community power.

This session is about moving from learning to action — helping shape next steps for a CDA that can support Skyway’s people, places, culture, and future.
