Are you an adoptee who was born in Oregon or currently lives in Oregon?

Thanks to a partnership with the Oregon Department of Human Services, the Adoptee Mentoring Society is offering FREE virtual mentorship to eligible Oregon adoptees ages 13 and older.

AMS connects adoptees with trained adoptee mentors who understand the experience of adoption firsthand. Mentorship can be a place to talk about identity, belonging, birth family, reunion, race and culture, relationships—or simply whatever is on your mind that day.

Because sometimes you don't need someone to explain adoption to you. You need someone who already gets it.

Sometimes adoptee mentoring looks like deep conversations about identity, grief, belonging, and family.

And sometimes it looks like texting your mentor something that is so specifically that there is simply no way to explain it to anyone else. 😂

✨ Meet Jenny Nau (Jenny Nau), an adoptee, educator, crafter, puzzle-lover, and AMS mentor.

Jenny creates calm, judgment-free virtual spaces for adoptees to explore their experiences and figure out what feels true for them.

As an adoptee herself, Jenny knows how powerful it can be to find other adoptees—especially during seasons of change and reunion. And if you’re nervous about starting mentorship, she wants you to know: You don’t have to know what you want to talk about. You don’t even have to talk about adoption the whole time.

Maybe you talk about your favorite hobby. A person or place that matters to you. The latest show you’ve been binge-watching.

Sometimes mentorship starts with adoption. Sometimes it starts with simply getting to know each other.

What matters is having someone in your corner who understands adoption from the inside.

There are millions of adoptees. So why can finding someone who gets it feel like one in a million?

Angela Tucker, an adoptee, author, founded the Adoptee Mentoring Society because she saw too many adoptees navigate identity, family, race, belonging, and loss without access to someone who understood those experiences firsthand.

Recently, one of our mentees was navigating questions like: What if my biological siblings want to know me? What should I say when I meet my birth mom? Will my adoptive parents be hurt?

They had a mentor who understood—not because she had all the answers, but because she’d had those questions, too.

That’s what we’re building: a future where adoptees can find their people, feel understood, and never have to navigate adoption alone.

We’re proud to be one of the one million nonprofits using to design change in the world.

Mentorship isn’t all heavy conversations.

Of course mentors and mentees absolutely talk about adoption—the complexities, the unanswered questions, and all the feelings that come along with it. But mentorship is also a place to laugh, be silly, and apparently sometimes put on ski goggles and grab a pink microphone.

There’s room for all of it.
