Our History
Originally founded in 1999 to support the Academy of Travel and Tourism at Tyee High School in SeaTac Washington, Tyee Dollars for Scholars has grown to support students entering all fields. Our first major donor was the City of SeaTac Hotel/Motel Tax Committee. These scholarships supported those students in the Academy to continue their post high schools studies. Along with support
for Academy graduates, Tyee DFS, under the wonderful leadership of Marilyn Campbell (parent of a Tyee grad and then PTSA president) and Larry Vitagliano (then General Manager for the DoubleTree Hotel, SeaTac) expanded the scholarship opportunities to include all students at Tyee High School. Our Schools
Tyee High School became Tyee Educational Complex, with three small schools in 2004. The three schools are:
Global Connections High School
Odyssey, the Essential School
Academy of Citizenship and Empowerment
The city of SeaTac in Washington State, and Tyee Educational Complex, have seen tremendous changes in recent years. The city of SeaTac is now one of the most diverse cities in Washington State. Over 50 different languages are spoken on the school campus. The students who study at the Tyee Complx Campus come from all over the world. Our Goal
Tyee DFS's vision is to offer hope to students for the future. One tangible way to do this is through financial support for post high school education.
