Community Announcement – Free Legal Clinic

The Bhutanese Community of Scranton is pleased to offer a one-time legal clinic session for all Bhutanese Nepali community members in the Scranton, PA.

This is a valuable opportunity to receive guidance and ask questions related to:
β€’ Immigration matters (green card, citizenship, visas, etc.)
β€’ Family or personal legal concerns
β€’ Documentation and application processes
β€’ General legal advice and resources

Come prepared!
Please bring any relevant documents and be ready with your questions so you can make the most out of this session.

The Bhutanese Community of Scranton is deeply saddened to share the passing of Mr. Prati Man Karki, a beloved member of our community.

Mr. Karki was born on February 21, 1938, in Chhage, Chirang, Bhutan, to the late Prasad Karki and Mon Maya Karki. Later, he moved with his family to Danapaani, Gelephu, Bhutan, where he continued to build a life rooted in love, kindness, and perseverance.

Due to political instability, he and his family were forced to leave Bhutan in 1990, seeking safety in Nepal. They resided in Beldangi-2, Sector A/4, Jhapa, where Mr. Karki spent nearly two decades in the refugee camp before being resettled in the United States through the International Organization for Migration in 2010.

Since then, Mr. Karki made Scranton, Pennsylvania, his home, residing at 2254 S Webster Ave, where he took his last breath surrounded by his beloved family.

He was the devoted husband of Mrs. Pabitra Karki and is survived by four sons, one daughter, and many grandchildren who cherish his memory deeply. Mr. Karki will always be remembered as an inspiring father, a gentle soul, and a source of wisdom and motivation to all who knew him.

The Bhutanese Community of Scranton extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We kindly invite friends, relatives, and community members to join us in paying final respects and celebrating the life of our dear late Prati Man Karki.

With deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of Mr. Sai Man Subedi, who was born on July 27, 1930, in Dadagau, Chirang, Bhutan. He passed away peacefully at his residence on February 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at 128 Park Drive, Scranton, PA 18505.

Due to political instability, Mr. Subedi and his family were forced to flee Bhutan in 1990 and lived for nearly two decades as refugees in the Sanischare Pathri Refugee Camp in Nepal. In 2012, with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), he and his family resettled in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he continued to live until his final days.

Mr. Subedi was the beloved husband of the late Mrs. Damber Kumari Subedi. He is survived by his three sons, daughters-in-law, and many grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, and humble person who was a source of great inspiration to his family and all who knew him.

The Bhutanese Community of Scranton invites all relatives, friends, and well-wishers to join us in honoring and praying for the peaceful repose of his soul, and to offer comfort and support to the bereaved Subedi family during this difficult time.

Bhutanese Community of Scranton is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved community member, Mr. Naina Singh Mangar, father of Arun Mangar. Mr. Mangar passed away on December 20, 2025, at CMC Geisinger Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Mangar was born in Nebhare, Bhutan, and was forced to flee to Nepal in 1992 due to political instability, spending nearly two decades in Beldangi refugee camp. He came to the United States of America in 2014 through the IOM resettlement process and lived in Boston, MA. After that he and his family moved to Scranton Pennsylvania and had been living in 113 Gerard St, Scranton, PA 18504 since 2021.
He was the loving father of 5 sons and 2 daughters and a proud grandfather to many grandchildren. He was a caring and loving father, a great inspiration to his family, and a deep source of love and guidance to his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The Bhutanese Community of Scranton respectfully requests your presence, support, and prayers for the bereaved family during this difficult time and prays that his departed soul may rest in peace in heaven.

The live concert was great success! Our invited artists were truly outstanding, treating us to wonderful dances and heartwarming melodious songs that brought warmth to this cold season.
Despite the ongoing construction in the hall, the live performances were simply amazing. Our main artists, Satya and Swaroop, energized the crowd and got everyone dancing right in front of the stage. A special acknowledgment goes to the main attraction of this concert our renowned artists of Nepali Music industry, Mr. Satya Swroop Acharya. We are equally honored to have Shankar BC, a celebrated contemporary Nepali Choreographer, and Parbati Rai, an award wining dancer, model and actress. Your powerful performances, artistry, and teamwork made concert unforgettable.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire Bhutanese Community of Scranton for your support and participation. Special thanks go to the Core Group-their tireless efforts made this event a memorable Success. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors and donors for their invaluable contribuitons. Your generosity played a vital role in bringing this vision to life.
