The Scranton Lions Club and Dream Game Committee mourn the loss of our friend and fellow Lion, Jack Kuchak.
Jack brought the same passion, energy, and loyalty to the Dream Game Committee that he showed throughout his life—as a proud Dunmore Buck, a dedicated teammate, and a generous member of our community. His enthusiasm for high school football and his deep pride in the tradition of the Dream Game were felt by everyone who had the privilege to serve alongside him.
Jack’s kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment to helping others embodied what it means to be a Lion. His passing is a tremendous loss, not only to the Scranton Lions Club and Dream Game family, but to the entire Northeastern Pennsylvania football community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Chrissy, daughter Claire, and the entire Kuchak and Scartelli families. Jack’s spirit and love for the game will live on in the players, coaches, and friends he inspired.
Rest in peace, #57.
Dear Dunmore Football Family,
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our own – Jack Kuchak ( #57, Class of 1995). Jack was 49 years old and a devoted member of the Dunmore Football program from 1990–1994. After his playing days, Jack returned to the Dunmore Football program as a volunteer assistant coach from 2006–2009, continuing to give back to the team and community he cherished so deeply.
After graduating high school, Jack attended Moravian College, where he was a member of the football team. Jack carried a piece of Dunmore with him to Bethlehem. To say he was proud of his roots is an understatement — everyone on campus knew “Kuch,” and everyone in his circle heard all about Bucktown. Jack made sure people knew where he came from, and he wore his Dunmore connection like a badge of honor. Although Jack may have lived outside the borough for some time, it was crystal clear that he always considered Dunmore home.
Although his professional career eventually kept him from coaching full-time, Jack’s heart never left the Bucks. There was no bigger fan, no greater supporter, and no truer friend to the program. He consistently provided financial support, meals, and gear for our players, but what truly set him apart was his commitment to helping our alumni long after graduation.
Jack had a remarkable gift for connecting people. He took great satisfaction in helping former Bucks build their careers—setting up job interviews, introducing them to mentors, and opening doors in their chosen fields. He genuinely enjoyed helping others and connecting Bucks alumni with his peers in the business world, and he found joy in seeing them succeed. His generosity, loyalty, and genuine care for others made an impact that stretched far beyond the football field.
Just recently, Jack’s love for football brought him to serve on the Dream Game Committee. He embraced this role wholeheartedly and always felt a deep sense of accomplishment in contributing to such a meaningful local tradition. Jack always beamed when he told people he was from Dunmore.
Jack loved being a Buck, and he demonstrated that dedication every day—whether cheering from the sidelines or wearing his Dunmore gear around his Glenmaura neighborhood. He treasured his time as a member of the 1993 Big Eleven Championship team. Jack exemplified “Once a Buck, Always a Buck.” His spirit, kindness, and devotion to this program will never be forgotten.
Please keep his wife and high school sweetheart, Chrissy Scartelli Kuchak, his daughter, Claire, his mother, Susan, and the rest of the Kuchak and Scartelli families in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jack was, and always will be, a part of the Dunmore Football family.
