Is there anything nicer than a lovely late spring evening in such a beautiful place, with so many people out having a good time? We were happy to see that the replacement basketball hoops are holding up much better than the first round (not sure what happened but two of the originals were looking a little frayed after wind and rain, before they even unlocked the gates on Day 1. These seem more sturdy). The new Butterfly playground continues to be a big hit with the younger kids. Final prep continues on the activity pool. And there are plenty of new benches and picnic tables around the park, many of them installed by Friends of Nay Aug’s very own volunteers. We might be biased, but this park is truly the crown jewel of our city.

The sun came out just in time for everyone to enjoy the last part of the long weekend. Every court was full of happy people of all ages. For those who prefer a quieter time, you could enjoy the sounds of singing birds and tree frogs in the half of the park from the Rose Garden up to the Greenhouse. And the upcoming week looks gorgeous, so get out there and have some family fun!

Spring flowers are in bloom along the trails and we saw wild strawberry, Solomon’s Seal, and this pretty little wild geranium. We sometimes see people making their own paths through the woods and there are several reasons why that’s not always a great idea. One of those reasons is on display in this picture, tucked around the flowers. Do you see it? Post a comment if you do!

This is Green Ridge, NOT the area around our park. It is still prudent to be mindful of what is around you while walking. With the exception of the squirrels (which are regularly fed by a few people), all wild mammals and the feral cats in the park should run away when people or dogs approach. Please give a wide berth to any wild or feral mammal that seems aggressive or unafraid of people or dogs, and keep children and pets away from wildlife and stray cats. (Skunks are the exception and don’t always run because they have very few natural predators, but we hopefully all know to avoid skunks!)
