Todayโs Memorial Day ceremony did not go as planned, and I want to offer my sincere apologies to everyone who attended.
After the VFWโs 21-gun salute, many attendees understandably believed the ceremony had concluded and began leaving. As a result, we were unable to continue with the formal service that had been prepared to honor our fallen heroes.
My heart is heavy because so much time, effort, and love went into planning this event. We had hoped to share reflections, prayers, tributes, and words of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
While I am disappointed that the full program could not be completed, I remain deeply grateful to everyone who supported this event. Thank you to the VFW for their participation and service, to our volunteers and community members who attended, and to the Scranton City Council members who took time to join us in honoring our nationโs heroes. Your presence and support were greatly appreciated.
Please know that our intention was always to provide a meaningful tribute to our fallen service members. We will learn from this experience and work to ensure future ceremonies are communicated and coordinated more clearly.
As someone whose father, Willard Hallock, proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, honoring veterans and remembering the fallen is deeply personal to me. That commitment remains as strong as ever.
Thank you for your understanding, your grace, and your continued support as we strive to honor the men and women who gave everything for our freedom.
May we never forget their sacrifice.
