You Are Not Alone is a free monthly online connection for parents, grandparents, guardians, and caregivers concerned about someone they love who may be experiencing grooming, exploitation, or trafficking.

Hosted by Sheri Lopez, human trafficking survivor and grooming prevention educator, this is a supportive place to talk, listen, ask questions, share concerns, or simply be present with others who understand.

TWO MISSIONS. ONE VISION. ONE ORGANIZATION.

Effective January 1, 2027, Pearl at the Mailbox will officially merge with the Arizona Human Trafficking Survivor Coalition (AZHTCO).

As the founder of Pearl and President of AZHTCO, I have been managing two organizations with a shared mission. Bringing them together will allow us to streamline our efforts, eliminate confusion, strengthen our impact, and focus more time and resources on the work that matters most.

Pearl isn't going away!

PEARL will continue within AZHTCO as Prevention Education Around Real Life, focusing on recognizing grooming before exploitation begins.

With an incredible team of survivors and supporters, we are moving forward together in prevention, education, survivor support, outreach, advocacy, and legislation.

Same commitment. Stronger team. Greater impact.

We are excited about what lies ahead in 2027!

I’m under the weather today, and it has brought back memories of how I was “cared for” when I was being trafficked.

My trafficker had a doctor on speed dial. What might have looked like concern for our health came at a terrible cost: his “care” was paid for with our bodies.

Today, I can rest and decide what I need. Back then, even medical care became another way we were exploited.

Survivors carry memories that an ordinary sick day can bring to the surface. Please listen with compassion.

WHO HAS YOUR CHILD’S EMOTIONS?

We talk about screen time, social media, and strangers online. But are we talking about AI relationships?

Kids can have private, deeply personal conversations with AI about loneliness, relationships, s*x, family problems, and things they may never tell you.

So don't just ask, “How much time is my child online?”

Ask: “Who—or what—has access to my child’s emotions?”

Talk with your kids about the AI they use. Stay curious. Listen. Keep the door open.
Technology is changing. Our conversations with our kids need to change with it.

IS A “RUNAWAY” ALWAYS A RUNAWAY?

When a child disappears, we often hear one word: RUNAWAY.

But that only tells us they left. It doesn’t tell us why, or who may have convinced them to go.

Was someone grooming them? Promising love, money, protection, or a place to stay? Was someone waiting for them?

A child can physically walk out the door and still be a victim.

Instead of only asking, “Why did this child run away?” we should also ask: “WHO may have lured this child away?”

Look at the phone. Look at social media. Look at new relationships. Look at what happened BEFORE they disappeared.

Maybe the child we're calling a “runaway” is actually a LURED MINOR.

Because exploitation has a BEFORE.

In this episode of Let’s Talk About It, I’m talking about recruiters—who they can be, how they gain trust, and the role they can play in grooming and exploitation.

For me, the recruiter was my boyfriend. His father became my trafficker.

Understanding recruitment can help us recognize what may be happening before exploitation begins.
