Scotts Valley Cub Scouts Pack 604

On a perfect Sunday afternoon, Pack 604 got outside to take a bike trip from Natural Bridges State Beach to Lighthouse Point via the West Cliff Dr bike path. Everyone was having so much fun that even our Kindergarteners decided do an unplanned extension, traveling back via the brand new Section 7 of the Coastal Rail Trail.

After that, our 4th and 5th graders STILL weren't done, and added on a side trip up to Wilder Ranch!

In preparation for our September bike trek, Pack 604 got together during a beautiful evening at Sky Park to get ready. Younger grade levels learned all about bicycling safely, and with the help of Scotts Valley Scouts BSA Troop 614 our 4th and 5th graders got a crash course in bike maintenance and tire repair.

And of course, why not end the evening with a bunch of hot laps around the pump track!

In early Sept, Pack 604 spent an afternoon fishing at Loch Lomond. This time, we caught 3 Blue Gill, a new record!

Our Charter Organization, St Philips Episcopal Church, has been providing shelter and meals to homeless people from our community, with volunteers providing meals each evening.

Cub Scouts from Pack 604 were proud to have the opportunity to provide a home-cooked dinner this week.

On Sunday Pack 604 took our first hike of the 25/26 school year to Castle Rock State Park. We took a hike to the eponymous Castle Rock itself, and the scouts spent the afternoon scrambling climbing through every path and hole through the rock they could find!

Pack 604 kicked off the year with a party at Sky Park, with good food and friends, perfect August weather, and a bunch of classic field games: 3 legged races, Potato Sack Races, obstacle courses, and Tug of War.

Pack 604 went to Mt Madonna for our Spring 2024 campout. In the ever-present fog of Mt Madonna, our scouts took a hike, practiced their fire starting, and built forts among the trees.

In addition to the local Scouting America reservation in the Santa Cruz Mountains, scouts can go to Camp Hi-Sierra, near Pinecrest.

This summer, some of our scouts from Pack 604 got to try out the *huge* climbing wall (and made it to the top!), got to try iron forging, and went for a row on the lake!

In addition to Pack 604's local campouts, the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay Council hosts events as the scout reservations at Camp Chesebrough (near Hwy 9 and Skyline) and Camp Hi-Sierra (near Pinecrest, CA).

Parting of scouting is to "Help other people at all times". With Pack 604, your child can help our community. For example, each fall the Scouting for Food effort collects food donations from Scotts Valley to donate to our local food banks.
