Breakfast with Cairo! This little serval has been through so much in his short life 😕 He was an illegal pet that escaped, was on the run for over a month and got hit by a car. After losing a leg and weeks of recovery he's doing good. So sad that he had to go thru the pain and trauma 😢

Safari out exploring and seems to have found something interesting on the boulder 🙂 Servals are very inquisitive wildcats and they need lots of enrichment to keep them happy 😊 Good thing our keepers are so good at doing that!

This was posted back in 2020 😔

Rescue never sleeps, even in this crazy time of lockdown and social distancing. We got an email last week from a woman who knew someone that had an F1 Bengal that needed placement. The cat's history is pretty sordid, listed on Craigslist, passed around to three different owners and now hoped we could make room. Of course, we said yes . . .

From the owner:
"This cat is 6 years old, he will use p*e pads but since he is a 4 paw declaw, he does not use litter boxes. He will occasionally use a toilet but he will also go where he sees fit. He has been allowing me to pet him while he has been ill, but now that he is perking up he is more untrusting again and threatens me if I invade his personal space. He is currently being kept in a bathroom. I am unable to control the flea population in the catio. Despite massive spraying for fleas, I can't irradicate them and they go after him like crazy. He ended up anemic and needed a transfusion a few weeks ago. We didn't know if he would make it but he pulled through. Unless he is sick, he will not allow me to crate him for a vet visit or even get close enough to apply flea meds. Even after all of this time, he does not have trust in me. I did get to pet him a lot in the last two weeks while he recovered but now he is back to lashing out at me."

Bo arrived last night. He's extremely thin weighing only 4.5 pounds, is frightened and hissy. He still had the tape on his front leg from the iv that was placed four weeks ago during his blood transfusion. We put flea medication on him, got the tape off and gave him some ground raw meat that he immediately ate. He seems to be having some trouble chewing and is a bit shaky but Dr. Connolly at Compass Vet will do a complete exam and see if he has any other issues that we don't know about. For now he's in the office crate and we will keep a very close eye on him and do whatever it takes to give this poor boy a better life than the one he had before 😕 This is just one more reason we don't support breeding and selling hybrid cats. Early generation hybrid cats are not pets, they require specialized care that few owners understand and they do not socialize well. Please send positive thoughts to this boy and we will keep you all updated on his progress. If you would like to donate toward his vet care that would be much appreciated 🙏

Oh Lucy, we couldn’t love you more ❤️ Lucy is a Savannah cat rescued in Canada by our dear friend Kelly Brook Allen. She cared for her, vetted her and brought her to us to begin her new adventure! Lucy has gone from a frightened, shut down cat, to a curious, outgoing girl living her best life ☺️ www.wildcatridgesanctuary.org/residents/hybrids/lucy
